Did my small feral kitten overdose on praziquantel dewormer?

Praziquantel has a very high margin of safety, so it would be perfectly fine to go a bit high on young, healthy cat. Reactions can happen with any drug even at normal doses, so if he seems off afterwards, definitely take him in for evaluation, but I would be very comfortable with you giving half a tablet.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats should be treated with an initial dose (based on the label instructions) and then again after 3 weeks. DO NOT give multiple doses in a day. Cats get tapeworms by ingested fleas that are infected with the tapeworm larvae so be sure to get the fleas under control.

If you think you overdosed them, I would call your vet or see if there is a 1800 number on the package - those are often helpful! As far as seeing worms- sometimes you do see worms but other times they get digested and you see diarrhea - which may be part of the reason their stools are soft now. I hope this helps!

Wormers are generally considered very safe medications and although some vomiting or diarrhea may develop this should resolve uneventfully. Some types can cause tremors and neurological signs and you should contact an emergency vet and inform them of the brand, timing and dosage if you notice any unusual symptoms

It would be impossible to get a small enough dose measured out for a 1.5 pound kitten, therefore, it is not recommended. You can, however, use the Panacur liquid but that needs to be given once a day for 3-5 days in a row and is rather expensive. It can be purchased over the counter. Follow the dosing recommendations on the bottle. Follow dosing and frequency recommendations on the packaging but in general, the dose is 1.0mls per 10 pounds of body weight. You need to get a 1cc syringe and give 0.15mls right now as she is 1.5 pounds. You will need to increase the dosage each time as her weight will be increasing. If Ollie is within the weight range, he should be fine. Monitor for drooling, lethargy or twitching. You can always wash him with some Dawn dish liquid focusing on the area of application to remove the product. This is most effective if it is still wet.
