My cat's praziquantel crumbles. Is a slightly higher dose safe?

Hello. According to the manufacturer, cats as young as 5.5 weeks tolerated doses of 5x labeled dose every 14 days. For your kitten, you are just about there. But it really takes a massive overdose to start to get concerned. But do watch for signs of overdose including salivation, vomiting & depression. If you see any of these signs in the next hour or so, & they do not clear up within a few hours, or the kitten really seems significantly affected, do seek veterinary attention. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats should be treated with an initial dose (based on the label instructions) and then again after 3 weeks. DO NOT give multiple doses in a day. Cats get tapeworms by ingested fleas that are infected with the tapeworm larvae so be sure to get the fleas under control.

No, it's not too early to give Twinkie another dose; however pyrantel pamoate does not kill tapeworms. Praziquantel does, and that available by prescription from your vet. Unfortunately it's illegal for use to prescribe any drugs or give dosage instructions without seeing the cat in person. You will need to take her to a vet to get praziquantel, and they can give you the dose and schedule. Best of luck.

I would recommend taking Tigger to make sure mebendazole is the proper medication for him. Even though this is a dewormer and typically pretty safe 500mg is a large dose for a 5kg cat. It will be to hard to break this tablet to the appropriate dose for Tigger. Also mebendazole does not kill tapeworms so Tigger might need additional medication to deworm for tapeworms. There are no warnings with praziquantel and dogs who have seizures, but I would check with your vet first to be safe before giving it to Nikki. If your vet says it's ok, then give her the whole dose as half a dose won't work. I hope this helps!

She will be fine. Dewormer has a really wide safety margin so double dosing does not cause any major issues for pets. At the most she may have a little upset stomach, but I don't even expect that to occur.
