Why does my cat meow and whine at her bug toy while she's playing?

That is very cute! Some cats like the sound of their own voice, or she may be making the noise to get your attention to you to play with her and her favorite toy. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, using the litter box normally, and behaving normally, I would view this as a cute little quirk of hers and I would not worry about it :-)

As long as there is no underlying medical reason that could account for the sound then I imagine she may be bored and looking for attention. I would suggest getting a cat flap if you don't already have one so that she can come and go as she pleases. Cats love being outside and usually tire themselves out when out. Alternatively get her some climbing toys and you could try a pheromone diffuser.

Hello. I have a male cat that does this periodically with a small toy. It is a peculiar meow & when I hear it he always has this small toy in his mouth. In his case, this is probably the call to inform all around him that he is bringing home dinner. I always tell him how proud I am with him. I have also observed an outside cat that has caught a small prey animal do the same thing. With Sarah, it is probably something similar in that she is "announcing" that she has caught the scrunchie. This may also be a maternal behavior. Regardless, it is very normal for a cat to vocalize with a toy or soft object. Just make sure the scrunchie is unable to be swallowed by your cat. Thanks for using PetCoach. This is a normal play behavior. (So is reaching out to claw your pants as you walk by or trying to catch your hands with her claws while you pet her.) There are two ways I handle this. One is to stop petting and leave so that she knows play time is over. Honestly it hasn’t really worked yet (she still does it sometimes) and my cat is now 18 mos. What seems to work better is to get up and grab her favorite toy and start playing with that. That is something she CAN bite and claw at and get those natural play behaviors out- without chomping my hands. If he continues to behave abnormally and not eat then he should be examined by a Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

It is possible that your puppy is just excited while playing with his toys, and so makes happy or whiny sounds. Some dogs and puppies will "play growl" as they play tug of war or other games and just do it due to excitement. This is a very normal behavior unless you are seeing signs of stress or pain during the play session. If you'd like your puppy to whine less when trying to get to a toy, you can try an activity of having him sit and wait, and then give the toy once he is calm. (This may take a few minutes for very excited puppies!) This will help to teach him that sitting and being calm will get him toys, while being too excited will not.
