Why is my kitten leaking poop, leaving streaks, and has rice worms?

Hi. I noticed that my kitten (about 5-6 months) started having fecal incontinence. I've had him for about 2 months and this has never happened before. He was sleeping and I noticed he had a little poop that looked like it was coming out so I immediately wiped. He has been leaving streaks on bedding and pillows. Sometimes I find tiny dropping on the floor. What can be causing this? He has an appt with a vet on Monday like an answer sooner. Also, noticed worms are back. Small, rice like THANKS

Fecal incontinence can be due to a neurologic problem or a problem with the colon or rectum. Sometimes cats with diarrhea can also show mild fecal incontinence. Your veterinarian can check his reflexes and and anal tone to see if he is showing signs of neurologic disease. Other possibilities include trauma (possibly before you got him), diseases like megacolon, or a rectal stricture. Your veterinarian might recommend a taking a stool sample, taking some spinal x-rays, or sedating Gizmo for a digital rectal exam.

I would guess that the worms are tapeworm segments and are unrelated to the cause of his fecal incontinence unless you have seen him scooting.

I am very sorry to hear that Gizmo has been exoperiwncing these issues. I am sure it is upsetting for you both. From the symptoms you are describing it sounds like Gizmo is experiencing diarrhoea, which is most likely caused by her gastrointestinal worm infestation. Worms which appear like rice in a tad feces are usually tapeworms. Your vet will be able to diagnose all the worms present by a fecal analysis using a microscope and can then prescribe an appropriate deworming tablet or injection.

I'm sorry to hear this! It sounds like Smoky may have an issue such as constipation or even GI upset that is causing the problem. If the anus or rectal area are very irritated, that may cause fecal incontinence as well. It sounds as if Smoky is feeling pretty ill, and would benefit from additional examination and testing to try and find the cause. (Possibly with another vet!)

If your kitten has not been wormed yet, I suggest you worm him with a kitten wormer and again in 2 weeks. If he has intestinal parasites he would have a problem holding weight and it could also cause diarrhea. You should also take a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian for a fecal exam. If this does not help, if your kitten's diarrhea does not clear up, or if he does not gain weight, or if your kitten gets lethargic or appears ill, he should be seen by a veterinarian for an exam. Make sure you feed him a good quality kitten food.

Poor Dipper! I would bring him into your vet along with a stool sample. This can help check for parasites, etc that may be causing GI upset. Your vet can also examine Dipper to look for any nerve/muscular issues or injuries that may be causing his incontinence.

My 7-month-old cat leaves small poop around house, still uses litter?

Poor Coal! It sounds like he is having a little bit of fecal incontinence. I would have your vet take a look at his feces to make sure he doesn't have any type of parasite or bacterial infection. These can sometimes cause an increase in frequency and even sometimes a little softer stool than normal making it difficult for him to hold it in. If everything there is normal, then I would have your vet check him for any neurological problems. Your vet will be able to see if he needs any treatment for that or if any medicines can be added to help him out. I hope this helps!

My kitten has liquid, discolored poop but is still active. Why?

Hi there and thanks for posting! Diarrhea or loose stools can be common in kittens with intestinal parasites. I would recommend running a fecal test at your veterinarian's office to rule out parasites as cause. Falcor may need to be on medication and may need a few more deworming treatments and a recheck fecal test to help treat him and be sure he is negative for parasites. Be sure to wash your hands well after touching his feces during little box clean up or if he has an accident on the floor. My kitten has frequent runny, smelly poop but seems healthy. Why?

Koko may have intestinal parasites still or colitis. She may have some food indiscretion or sensitivity. I suggest you take a fresh stool sample to your vet for a fecal exam. If she has parasites, she will need to be wormed/receive medication against the type of parasites present, again. sometimes worming has to be repeated. If she has a food indiscretion you will have to change her diet. Best to take her for a recheck to your veterinarian and discuss diet options with him.

Why does my dwarf kitten refuse the litter box and poop while walking?

If your foster kitten has some abnormality (such as dwarfism) that is affecting his bones, it can also affect the spine, so it can cause problems with normal defecation. I would recommend having a veterinarian perform an examination (including a neurological examination) to determine if there are any abnormalities. If the foster kitten has fecal incontinence because of a neurological condition, then he may be a special needs adoption. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
