Kitten head trauma: How to help with feeding, drinking, and pain?

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, a lot of the time when it comes to neurologic trauma time and small signs of improvement are what you are looking for. X-ray only tells us if there are fractures in the skull and are very difficult to see the full scope of the trauma as so many structures are superimposed on top of each other. The best diagnostic to give you an idea about extent of trauma and prognosis would be an MRI. It sounds like the kitten is making some progress, but only time will really tell us how much progress he will make. He may never be completely healed and functional, so you will also have to decide how dedicated you can/willing to be for a potentially special needs kitten. Grey should really be seen by a vet as soon as possible., If this is not an option, you should keep him rested and offer small amount of water and liquid food every 2-3 hrs. You may have to use a syringe if he is not taking food by himself. Unfortunately, human painkillers are dangerous to cats and there are no home remedies either that can be helpful for Grey. It is hard to say what happened to him, he may have broken limb, muscular discomfort or painful abdomen from internal organ trauma. He needs full clinical assessment to find out what has happened.

Poor little thing. The appearance of the abnormal eye is concerning. There may have been enough trauma to the eye to have caused glaucoma which can be very painful and should be addressed. In many cases, mild head trauma signs will slowly resolve and the fact that she is already showing improvement is a great sign. It is still best to have her checked out, have the eye evaluated and also begin her kitten preventive care requirements suck as deworming and vaccines. Thank you for helping her!

Poor kitty. I’m assuming the leg was splinted already? If not the vet needs to splint the leg so that it is stabilized and has a chance to heal. Also kitty ness to be on oral pain medication in addition to the injection the vet gave him, which usually only lasts for about a day or two. If he is in pain then he will continue to refuse food. Additionally I would check with the vet to see if the the anti internal bleeding injections have a side effect of inappetance. He may need to reduce the dosage or stop it altogether. Consult with your veterinarian on this since legally they are the ones who need to change any prescribed medications for kitty. I would also recommend bloodwork analysis to check for internal damage to kitty’s kidneys or liver. I hope this helps and that your kitty gets well soon. Best wishes and take care.

I'm so sorry that's happened to Nawab! If you have absolutely no option to take him to a vet, all you can do at home is try to keep him in a warm, safe area and offer him food and water (hand feeding, but not force feeding) hourly. Unfortunately without medical supplies and diagnostic information (X-rays, bloodwork), there just isn't much that you can do. If he has survived until now, and his breathing is not worse, continue nursing him along; he may pull through. I am so sorry there isn't more that you can do at home.

Oh dear, poor Meow! Since she is not moving, eating or drinking, my main concern is that she has experienced significant trauma in her travels, either from a long fall or being hit by a car. These traumatic events can cause major head trauma, rib fractures, or internal injuries that can be quite severe and painful. At this point, Meow needs to go to an emergency vet immediately for evaluation and treatment. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

I am so sorry to hear this. Based on what you are describing I would assume that the head trauma Dada sustained has caused swelling on the brain. This would account for the neurological symptoms you are seeing. Unfortunately cats with head trauma need intensive nursing care, special IV medications to help decrease the swelling, and possible oxygen therapy.
