My kitten was hit by a car. Why isn't he eating, moving, or pooping?

I would still recommend taking your kitten into the veterinarian to have an x-ray performed. She may have fractured the leg and just have a small hairline fracture without bone displacement. She would still need a splint or cast placed to help the bone heal. She may also benefit from some pain medication as well. As for the blood in her stool, I would recommend having a fecal examination performed by your veterinarian. It is very common for young kittens like this to have intestinal parasites that need to be treated with specific dewormers. There are other causes of blood in the stool as well such as dietary indiscretion, foreign bodies, viruses, or stress. The nerve damage may have affected his ability to pass stool. I recommend getting the cat in to see your vet as he may require enemas and manual extraction of fecal material that has built up. As far as the amount of food and water, encourage him to eat and drink as much as he will take. You can offer low-sodium chicken broth and use it to wet his food to get plenty of fluid into him. He may like that better than plain water and be more willing to drink on his own. Also, try warming his food in the microwave, being careful to stir and test it to make sure it isn't too hot so he won't burn himself.

Grey should really be seen by a vet as soon as possible., If this is not an option, you should keep him rested and offer small amount of water and liquid food every 2-3 hrs. You may have to use a syringe if he is not taking food by himself. Unfortunately, human painkillers are dangerous to cats and there are no home remedies either that can be helpful for Grey. It is hard to say what happened to him, he may have broken limb, muscular discomfort or painful abdomen from internal organ trauma. He needs full clinical assessment to find out what has happened.

If Bentley continues to be lethargic I recommend a trip to the vet asap to make sure is all ok. He is probably just a little sore! Offer him a small amount of food and monitor. Oh dear, poor Meow! Since she is not moving, eating or drinking, my main concern is that she has experienced significant trauma in her travels, either from a long fall or being hit by a car. These traumatic events can cause major head trauma, rib fractures, or internal injuries that can be quite severe and painful. At this point, Meow needs to go to an emergency vet immediately for evaluation and treatment. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

It's hard to know what's going on with him without seeing the xrays and knowing which pain medications your cat is on. Hopefully there is an opiate on-board like a long-acting buprenorphine injection to help appropriately with the pain. Usually with adequate pain medication cats will start eating after an injury if there is no other issue like kidney disease or a ruptured bladder (like from trauma). If he has not had bloodwork and a urine test done, I recommend these tests to make sure there isn't something else going on besides the fracture. Appetite stimulants like Mirtazapine may help him to start eating on his own, or you may have to force-feed him with a syringe and canned cat food. Hope that helps!

You are completely correct that he needs to see a veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure he has the best chance at healing as well as ensure his pain is treated. I would be most suspicious of trauma in his case, although an exam may reveal further information. Your vet will likely want to see if there is any broken bones or nerve damage, as well as see how extensive the wound is. S/he will also want to make sure any infection is treated appropriately and his pain is under control. Depending on what they find during the exam, they may recommend conservative wound management or further therapy like amputation.
