What's the best food for 10-week-old kittens? Why is their poop wet?

At 10 weeks of age your kitten should be able to eat kibble just fine. You should not need to add canned food to her diet unless you want to do it occasionally as a snack/treat. You may want to moisten the food with water before feeding her. Soft food can certainly lead to softer stools but you should make sure she has been dewormed too. I hope this helps. Congratulations on your new kitten! So far, it seems sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Pooping twice a day is completely normal. I also recommend feeding twice daily, just as you are doing. Brands that I commonly recommend feeding are Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin. If you choose to make a change in her diet, do so by gradually mix in the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. You can choose to feed exclusively wet or dry food, or a mix of both. This is largely a matter of personal preference. Be sure that you are feeding a food formulated for kittens or "all life stages" to aid in growth. She should continue to eat kitten food until 1 year of age, at which point you can transition to an adult cat food. Enjoy your new little kitten!

This could be due to the diet and it could also be due to intestinal parasites. I would recommend switching food to a kitten food and see if that helps. If it does not improve and continues to progress, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her poop sample to check for intestinal parasites. I hope this helps! At the age of 6-7 weeks, these kittens are completely capable of eating dry kitten food. Perhaps this would help to regulate the stools and firm them up. You can do a combination of soft kitten food and the dry kibble.

She's adorable! I would be a little more concerned that she might have intestinal parasites or another disease causing her diarrhea. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian if you have not taken her in already. They can check a stool sample and she may be old enough for vaccines at this point. If there does not seem to be a medical issue you could try seeing how she does on just wet or just dry food - kittens sometimes do better on one vs. the other.

Given that she gets loose stools with even a little Royal Canin, I would try a different food instead. Hill Science diet is great, as well as Purina ProPlan and Iams. If any of them give her loose stools even with switching slowly, then I would stick with the Whiskas only.

Congrats on your kittens but I'm sorry they are sick! It may be the change of diet that is causing this foul stools, and I would take them off that food. An adult cat food is not appropriate for kittens. They need higher amounts of calcium, protein, and calories than adult cats to grow properly, so they need to be on a kitten food. They may be eating voraciously because they are so hungry and their nutritional needs are not being met with the adult cat food. Take them off the adult cat food, and buy kitten food. Start them on a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps settle their stomach and clears up the diarrhea, and after two days on the bland diet, start adding in the kitten food. You can mix the boiled chicken with the dry or wet food. Over the next week, decrease the amount of chicken and increase the amount of kitten food until they are eating the kitten food only. If the bland diet does not help clear up the diarrhea, they will need to see a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!
