My kitten fell, now dragging back legs, breathing heavy. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 5 days old | 2 lbs

My 5 week old kitten may have climbed up on my bed and fallen off and hit something he used to run around fine and climb great he has progressively loss the use of his back legs he drags them now but he responds to feet tickling on both side as well as gently moves them on times but cannot walk if i stand him up he simply falls and drags his legs to one side. Heavy breathing as well as lack of appetite are present, he cannot meow unless he is picked up and he is still actively playing with toys

Oh no, poor Fors! I'm sorry to hear that he isn't feeling well. Fors' appetite changes and heavy breathing could be a sign of pain. I'm gland to hear that he has sensation and the ability to move his feet, but being unable to walk and falling over are certainly not normal and could be due to a fracture (leg, pelvis or back) or progressive neurologic disease. At this point, Fors should be examined by a vet immediately so that he can be examined and have any necessary diagnostics and treatments performed. I hope that all goes well!

My kitten was stepped on, breathing funny, and limping. What to do?

Ideally, Aries should be physically examined by your veterinarian. If he is breathing normally, not lethargic, has pink gums and is not extremely painful, then you can likely have him examined first thing tomorrow. X-rays of the paw and leg may be indicated to diagnose any fractures. If you can, restrict his activity for the rest of the night. Use a cat carrier if you have one. If he is very painful or if his breathing becomes labored and he is lethargic, then he should be examined tonight at the nearest veterinary ER.

My kitten is limp and breathing heavy after vet visit. What to do?

Poor kitty! Your pet sounds like he needs to be hospitalized and properly diagnosed to find out the underlying cause of his illness. They will likely need to run some tests (bloodwork, x-rays, etc) in order to diagnose what's wrong. Whether that be an internal musculoskeletal injury, heart condition, stroke, etc. I am not sure what injections your pet was given, but it definitely doesn't seem like it is enough treatment for your very ill pet. He is in critical condition so I would advise to making him in right away! Best of luck with your kitty.

I'm sorry to hear this. This is concerning for a condition known as fading kitten syndrome. The condition could be caused by a range of different things, but is often due to some hereditary defect. If you noticed blindness and deafness, then this could definitely indicate that she was born abnormal. The shaking and heavy breathing is very concerning and actually warrants emergency treatment, because she could be in shock. I recommend taking her to the vet as soon as you can to get a clear diagnosis of her condition and the necessary treatment.

Heavy breathing with abdominal effort/movement is a sign for concern and can be related to congenital heart defects causing congestive heart failure, pneumonia, pain, infectious conditions, among others. It is hard for me to tell you what is going on without examining your kitten. There is the possibility for internal trauma from a fall that high in a very young kitten. I would recommend that you keep a close eye on her. I would be more concerned if the cough continues or worsens for 72 hours, or if she is not eating or panting more than normal. Keep her as still and calm as possible so that her body can heal. Kittens can heal very quickly if you can manage to let them do it!
