Is my 2-month-old kitten's heavy breathing and fast stomach normal?

Increased respiratory rate can have several causes, including anemia, pain, heart disease, or lung disease. If you can see the abdomen moving when she breathes, I would be very worried. I would recommend that you have Kiku examined by a vet. They may need to diagnostics such as blood work or x-rays, depending on what the exam reveals.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Fiorre Flamma! I recommend that she be seen by a Vet as soon as possible due to the heavy breathing. She looks pretty sick in your pictures. Possible causes of a bloated stomach in a kitten are: intestinal parasites, constipation, and feline infectious peritonitis. All of these things are treated differently and have different outcomes. The best thing for Fiorre is to see a Vet for an exam and testing. I hope this helps and I wish Fiorre a speedy recovery!

Abnormal breathing in a cat can occur from conditions such as pneumonia, heart failure, asthma, bronchitis, among other possibilities. If her pulse (not respiratory rate) really is 70 bpm as you pointed out that is very abnormal for a cat and at the same time even if it was her respiratory rate it would also be abnormal. For that reason, I highly recommend that you have Marciella evaluated by your local emergency clinic or your veterinarian if open as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include chest radiographs. Treatment would be dependent on findings. Good luck!

Poor Cecelia. It sounds like she may be abdominal breathing which means she is having difficulty breathing and this could potential be an emergency. I would take her to your vet ASAP to be examined. They will be able to listen to her heart and lungs and watch her breathe. If needed they may want to take chest x-rays to see what her heart and lungs look like. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Kittens can breathe quite rapidly, even when they are sleeping, especially if they are dreaming. As long as his breathing rate is able to slow to a more normal rate, like 30-50 breaths per minute, and he is otherwise acting normally (eating/drinking well with a good energy level), he will likely be just fine! If he even seems distressed with his breathing, or he is coughing or sneezing a lot, he should be seen by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Hailee is a cute name. I would be concerned any time a cat is panting. A increased respiratory effort can be secondary to infection, virus, congenital issue or even pain related. I would recommend taking Hailee to a vet to make sure nothing serious is going on.

Poor Mochko. With symptoms of decreased appetite and "hard breathe" which I assume means she is having a hard time breathing, it is possible Mochka has pneumonia or an upper respiratory infection. I would highly recommend getting her seen by your vet again or another vet for a second opinion. They need to listen to her chest (auscultation) to check the lungs for certain sounds. If certain sounds in the chest are detected and Mochko also has a fever (greater than 102.5 degrees F rectal temp), then pneumonia is suspected. Chest x-rays would then be needed to confirm. If the chest is free of any abnormal sounds on expiration, then an upper respiratory infection is suspected, which is a better prognosis for kitty. At that time a short course of antibiotics and anti-viral meds (i.e. Lysine) can be prescribed to treat her condition. At any rate Mochko needs to be re-evaluated and the underlying condition properly identified so that we know exactly what she needs to get better.
