Is my kitten's eye crust and occasional squinting normal or a concern?

Cats often squint their eyes, especially if they are getting sleepy and about to nap. Now if you notice any redness of the white part of her eye, eye discharge (usually yellow green) or puffiness of her eyes, then I would get concerned about conjunctivitis and then eye drops would have to be prescribed by your vet. Your kitten needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. The cloudiness indicates trouble. It could be a scratch on the cornea, uveitis or other condition. Eye issues can get worse quickly so have Bret examined today. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

As long as the eye looks normal and does not tear or have a discharge then I'm not overly concerned about it. Next time you go to your veterinarian with Toby have them check his eye. He could have some eyelash hairs that irritate the eye so he keeps it closed, or there may be another problem that they can see when they do the exam. If he's squinting and seems painful or the eye is red with a discharge then I would take Toby in right away to get it checked. Cats can get the sleep discharge that humans can when they wake up in the morning. As long as Nala's eyes are not red, she doesn't have excessive discharge, and it's not greenish in color, I would not be worried about it. It is always ideal, however, to have any eye problem checked out by a vet just to be safe, and you can have Nala seen by a vet this week for a health check.

This can be a sign of sickness or an infection in cats. however, since he is normal in the day,he may be tired at night and the eyelid comes out. If there is no squinting or ocular discharge, and no sneezing, then i would not worry at this point. This is common in cats. They often will squint one eye. As long as she downstairs have any discharge (yellow or green), swelling or continued excessive blinking (blepharospams) then she is likely displaying normal cat behavior. Young kittens very commonly have bacterial and viral ocular issues. They can also be squinting from an injury to the cornea. I suggest you get her to your vet ASAP so they can diagnose the issue and provide the proper treatment. Eyes are very delicate organs and can go from bad to worse very quickly. You should not wait a long time to seek treatment. The only thing you can do at home while waiting to get her to a vet is to rinse the eye with saline solution. That is the only safe thing you can put in there for now without knowing what the underlying problem is. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
