What's the proper daily food and water intake for my new kitten?

Feed her wet (canned) kitten food 4 times a day. let her eat as much as she likes. She is still very young and normally should still be with mama and her siblings. Offer her kitten milk as well as water. She will get a lot of the moisture eating the wet food, however eventually she will start drinking water. Normally mama would teach her to drink water when it is time. Stick a finger in the bowl when she is in front of the bowl and wet her mouth. She should understand soon. Do not put the water next to her food. Cats do not like to drink next to the food. She will need lots of TLC, and you will need to play with her a lot (paper balls , string with a feather on it, etc)

I can understand your dilemma here. You can try offering her 1/4 cup 3 times a day and see if his curbs her hunger. The food recommendations on the bag are more like guidelines. I would also recommend weaning her off the milk over the next week, because she is old enough where she doesn’t need it after 6 weeks of age. The 1/2 cup is the DAILY amount she should be fed, and then divide that into 3-4 feedings. Since she is only really eating once a day, you would be fine just putting 1/4 cup of kitten chow in her bowl twice a day so that there is always something fresh in the bowl.

It sounds like you are doing an amazing job! If she is eating canned food well, you can also add some water to her canned food to help her take in more water. Her daily maintenance amount of water should be around 2 ounces or 1/4 cup at minimum. If it is really hot she may want more. Also make sure you have a fresh bowl of water out for her - they usually will drink want they want. Just keep in mind she is getting water from her canned food so she may not drinking as much as you think she should. I hope this helps!

As long as Okoye is pooping at least once a day, I wouldn't be too worried about her. I would be concerned if she wasn't pooping at all. Make sure the milk you are giving her is kitten milk replacer or a specific cat milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and shouldn't be given cow's milk. I would feed her at least three times a day with wet food. This is because wet food can dry out quickly and become unappetizing to her, leading her to not eat it. You can mix together wet food and dry food for her, or just feed her dry food. If you feed her dry food, you can leave the food out all the time. Feed her three times a day with the wet food until she is six months old, and then you can feed her twice a day. Good luck, I hope this helps!

You should feed her kitten food, canned food if possible because it adds water to her diet since most cats don't drink a ton of water. This in turn helps promote good urinary and kidney health long term. You should get a high quality kitten food such as Fromm, Hills science diet, Royal Canin, Evo or Eukanuba. In general, I stick with the bigger name brands because they are formulated by veterinary nutritionists. These include Purina, Hills Science Diet, Eukanuba, Royal Canin etc. Choose something that says “kitten” or “all life stages” until about 9 months, then transition to adult formula. I don’t have a preference on dry or wet so whichever you and Ginger prefer. I always also tell people that if finances are a concern, mixing half high-quality and half low-quality is perfectly acceptable. As for amount, approximately 1/4-1/3 cup or 1 -1.5 can per day (split up into two or three meals ideally). This will of course increase as he grows. Best wishes to you and Ginger!
