What's the best food for my kitten, how much, and how often?

Hi there. I would recommend feeding her a high quality kitten food until she is 9 months old. You can feed her canned food and dry food. You should feed her kitten food, canned food if possible because it adds water to her diet since most cats don't drink a ton of water. This in turn helps promote good urinary and kidney health long term. You should get a high quality kitten food such as Fromm, Hills science diet, Royal Canin, Evo or Eukanuba. You should be feeding her 3 times a day, and the amount should be based on what the bag or can says as a guideline. Best of luck with your kitty and I hope that she does well at her first vet visit. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do recommend using the food chart that comes with the food. It is hard to make growing puppies and kittens overweight. If they are finishing the food and are not overweight then the volume of food is correct. If they are too skinny feed more but spread the meals out so it is less food per meal. If you think they are overweight cut back. Growing babies need more calories. I wish you the best!

Hello. It is difficult to regulate how much a growing young kitten will eat, generally we recommend just to free feed. Perhaps once the wormer has kicked in, he will do better. It is natural for kittens to catch *& eat bugs as this is part of their instinct to hunt. Kittens until they are the age of 12 months should be fed a kitten food to support their growth needs. Each bag of food has a different daily allotment, so feed her according the instructions on her bag of food. Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canid, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this helps.

During this time of rapid growth and maturation of their bones, it is very important to choose a complete and balanced diet with the appropriate levels of nutrients. Diets formulated for growth include those labeled for kittens or “all life stages.” Canned foods promote increased water consumption in cats, and feeding dry food exclusively or in combination with canned is also acceptable. Offering a kitten with a variety of textures early in life can be helpful in minimizing the chance of having a picky eater. Regardless of diet selection, always make diet changes gradually by mixing the old and new foods together over five to seven days and make sure to carefully measure the appropriate portions of your cat’s food. Abrupt changes have a greater likelihood of resulting in vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So cute! Koa maybe trying to make up for lost time! I would bring her in to the Vet for an exam and deworming. Intestinal parasites may be competing with her nutritional needs. At 5 weeks I do not think you need to use the formula any more. I would feed her 3-4 times per day and leave some dry food down.
