My kittens have fleas. Is Advantage safe if they lick it and get sick?

Advantage is very safe so you should be fine. You can take a damp cloth and wipe the area to remove some of it. It doesn’t matter where it’s applied, they recommend the neck so they can’t ,Ike it. The string of saliva may be due to a little nausea from licking the advantage. You need to part the hair and make sure that the advantage is applied directly to the skin to prevent it from running. Watch for any signs of vomiting or tremors. If you see either of these signs, have Chiky examined by your veterinarian.

Advantage is not toxic to cats, but K9 Advantix is - so if this is what you're using, you want to make sure that the product is fully dry before any close contact (like cuddling, mutual grooming, etc.) between the dog and the cats. I would wait at least 24 hours to be safe.

Personally I love Advantage. It’s effective and rarely causes a problem. You can use a small amount on several different spots on the head and neck where your cat can’t reach to lick it. That may prevent a large area of skin irritation. If you do see your cat becomeing irritated then use a cat safe flea shampoo and wash it off, and apply a thin film of cortisone cream on the area. Fleas can cause much more skin problems, in addition to anemia so using Advantage is a good way to control them and prevent those medical problems as well as flea bite allergic dermatitis in your cat. Natural remedies never work, so I’m not surprised that the kittens still have fleas. Advantage is fine as long as they around around seven weeks of age and at least two pounds in weight. From your pictures, they don’t look like little kittens, and appear over seven weeks of age.

Most topical products contain a "bittering" agent to make the liquid taste bitter and prevent it from being ingested. The problem with this is that the kittens may drool and foam at the mouth if they lick the product off each other. Revolution dries quickly and should be dry within 2 hours, so it may be safest to separate the kittens for 2 hours just to prevent any potential problems. Good luck! Since it's been two weeks since you late applied the Advantage, you can try another dose of it. He can also have Capstar again. Be sure to disinfect your home, as that will be a continuing source of fleas. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
