My cat got too much Advantage flea medicine. Should I worry?

Personally I love Advantage. It’s effective and rarely causes a problem. You can use a small amount on several different spots on the head and neck where your cat can’t reach to lick it. That may prevent a large area of skin irritation. If you do see your cat becomeing irritated then use a cat safe flea shampoo and wash it off, and apply a thin film of cortisone cream on the area. Fleas can cause much more skin problems, in addition to anemia so using Advantage is a good way to control them and prevent those medical problems as well as flea bite allergic dermatitis in your cat. The string of saliva may be due to a little nausea from licking the advantage. You need to part the hair and make sure that the advantage is applied directly to the skin to prevent it from running. Watch for any signs of vomiting or tremors. If you see either of these signs, have Chiky examined by your veterinarian.

You can put it on them, and keep each one in a separate room for the next 24 hours until it dries. Then they won’t kick it off each other. Be sure to apply the Advantage to the very back of their heads where they can’t reach it to lick off themselves.

I wouldn't have a concern about Advantage for felines, especially if Cheeto has had it before. Sometimes the feeling of the medication on their skin can feel weird, and we apply it in an area so that they can't easily groom it off, which could cause some anxiety. Keep an eye on Cheeto and if he isn't back to normal in a day or two, have him examined by your vet.

Hello, sorry to hear about your accident. Yes the medicine will work on her and she should be after receiving the wrong dose. This medications is reported to have more toxic effects when ingested than when applied topically. Things you can consider is to bathe your dog if you believe she is feeling unwell to wash the medication off her coat. Hi! I'm still here! Sometimes it may take me some time to see a question, especially if I haven't been on in a bit. So the best place to put the Advantage is on the back of Kitty's head. It won't travel down far enough for her to lick it. Do not rub it in, the medication will come off on your fingers and she won't get the full dose needed to protect her. I wouldn't do any other location than the back of the head, as she will be able to lick it off between her shoulder blades and her back for example. I hope this helps!

Advantage treatment is a good start. If your kitty has flea allergies it is necessary to keep fleas from biting her. So: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian (Advantage is fine) and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust. Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.
