My cat licked Advantage and is drooling. Is she okay? How to prevent?

Pet Armor is the same active ingredient as Frontline. As long as you applied the correct cat product your cat should be fine. The product is very bitter and nasty tasting, that's why she drooled. To prevent this in the future, be careful to apply the product high on the back of your cat's head and neck only. Watch your cat for signs of illness just to be safe.

These products don't usually taste good, silly Belle! The most common side effect would be hypersalivation, nausea, and vomiting. If you start to notice muscle tremors or seizures, then Belle should be evaluated by a vet immediately.

You can put it on them, and keep each one in a separate room for the next 24 hours until it dries. Then they won’t kick it off each other. Be sure to apply the Advantage to the very back of their heads where they can’t reach it to lick off themselves.

Personally I love Advantage. It’s effective and rarely causes a problem. You can use a small amount on several different spots on the head and neck where your cat can’t reach to lick it. That may prevent a large area of skin irritation. If you do see your cat becomeing irritated then use a cat safe flea shampoo and wash it off, and apply a thin film of cortisone cream on the area. Fleas can cause much more skin problems, in addition to anemia so using Advantage is a good way to control them and prevent those medical problems as well as flea bite allergic dermatitis in your cat. Just keep an eye on her. She would need to eat a lot of the product to get sick. You may want to give some wet food with added water to get the product to pass through more quickly. I would expect some drooling as the only side effect. Do monitor her though and should you see any medical problems such as tremors or vomiting and diarrhea then I would take her in. I wouldn't have a concern about Advantage for felines, especially if Cheeto has had it before. Sometimes the feeling of the medication on their skin can feel weird, and we apply it in an area so that they can't easily groom it off, which could cause some anxiety. Keep an eye on Cheeto and if he isn't back to normal in a day or two, have him examined by your vet.
