My kitten has fleas. Is it safe to reapply Advantage II after 2 weeks?

I recently found a kitten about 4 months old that was infested with fleas. I bought Advantage II for kittens. 1 dose did nothing to the fleas. Gave him a Capstar pill and another dose of Advantage 2 days later and he still still a lot of fleas. It's been 2 weeks, is it safe to try another dose of Advantage?

Since it's been two weeks since you late applied the Advantage, you can try another dose of it. He can also have Capstar again. Be sure to disinfect your home, as that will be a continuing source of fleas. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

After three weeks, it should be fine to go ahead and apply another spot-on treatment. I would recommend using Revolution or Advantage Multi, as most other topical flea medications are not very effective in my experience.

Poor girl. I would recommend a Capstar as this will rid all fled within 24 hrs and is the only safe thing that can be given along with a flea preventative. Then I would consider switching flea products to something more effective, such as Revolution topical flea preventative. With many flea products, they can be re-dosed safely in 2-3 weeks. Call the manufacturer of the flea product you used initially just to verify that it is safe to redose early, if needed. And lastly don't forget to treat the environment with a flea fogger, available at your local hardware store or Lowes or Home Depot. I wish your kitty well and I hope you get a handle on this flea problem soon!

Frontline has been around a long time now and I suspect there is some flea resistance to the product. I would recommend you use a different product like Program. Yes, you can do it now since it has been 2 weeks.

Also, you need to be sure to treat the house or the fleas will keep causing an issue. This is the best product.

Hello! It is safe to use the Advantage again now, so I recommend reapplication of that product. Keep in mind as well that the outdoors will have a continual source of fleas, and there's not much you can do about that for Chiky. You can washing her bedding in hot and soapy water to kill any fleas in there. If she's allowed inside, you will need to disinfect the home as well. Vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps :-)

When can I apply Revolution to my cats after Advantage 2 flea treatment?

Great question! According to the package insert for Advantage 2, you can safely reapply once every two weeks, so it would be fine to give them the Revolution now. You can also give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give with the Revolution. Don't forget you will need to disinfect the environment as well. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. Great question! Because 15 days have passed, it's fine to give Roman the Advantage II. I would also give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that is safe to give now and will start killing fleas in 30 minutes. Remember as well you need to disinfect the environment, as the environment can be a continuing source of fleas. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. My cat has fleas after Advantage II. Can I reapply it in 48 hours?

Hi and thank you for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Advantage II is not safe to use twice in 48 hours. The product safety specifications indicate that it should not be applied more often than once every 7 days for cats. I would not want to overload her system with more topical product in case she received a full dose and all of the dose was absorbed. In a week, it would be okay to apply another application. I'm sorry you are having such problems with fleas on Kitten! Please keep in mind that when you are treating for fleas, the environment itself has to be treated in order to successfully get rid of them. If you haven't treated your home, then that might by why you are still seeing fleas on Kitten. You can try the lufenuron along with the Capstar, but you will need to disinfect your home. I can give you the flea treatment program I always recommend to see if that helps you. First, I would give the Capstar, and then follow up with either Advantage, Revolution, or the lufenuron. To disinfect the home, wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Good luck!

Kitten bathed after flea treatment. Should I reapply Advantage?

I would check the instructions on the package of the product you applied for instructions but most say not to bathe within 24 hours of application. I would be worried about overdosing as she would have absorbed most of the chemical already but some may have washed off. I would wait to retreat and see if there are any live fleas in a few days. You can continue treating with grooming with a flea comb and treated baths until the package says you can retreat (usually a month later)
