Is human pediatric medicine syrup safe for cats? What are the risks?

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your kitten! How awful. To answer your question, the odds that his death was related to the dewormer he received at the vet are essentially zero. All of the commonly-used dewormers in the US are extremely safe, and I have never seen a single serious problem related to a dose of dewormer in my entire career. It's much more likely that your kitten had some type of unrelated illness that caused his death. If you want to try and find out what happened, the only way to know would be to have an autopsy done, called a necropsy in animals. Your veterinarian should be able to advise you on where you can have this done, if it's something you want to pursue. Again, I'm very sorry for loss.

No, cats are very delicate and have bad reactions to most human medications. Paracetamol can kill a cat so there aren’t any medications that can be given safely to cats. Deworming is a good idea. Usually when the third eyelids are elevated it is due to a GI issue. I have no idea what medication the vet gave you but most of the medications we use in animals are human medications so if they prescribed it I would assume it is OK to give. If you would like to post again with the name of the medication we may be able to help you better.

I do not recommend giving any pets any human medications without specific instructions from your vet. Steroids have to be given carefully in order to obtain the correct therapeutic effect and they must be weaned off it when finishing a course. This is a discussion best handled by your veterinarian.

Human drugs can cause severe side effects in cats and even death. If you can not afford the testing then ask your Vet for supportive care, things like fluids under the skin and antibiotics for a longer course. In the IS pneumonia is rate in cats. Cats more commonly are chronically infected with viral infections or if they have chronic fevers were worry about Feline Leukemia, FIV and Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Administering piriton syrup containing ethanol to your cat would not be recommended. Cats are sensitive to ethanol toxicity so any products containing it should be avoided. It is likely the taste of the liquid would make it very difficult to administer to your cat, probably causing drooling and/or foaming at the mouth. Stick with the tablets. They are easier and safer to administer.
