My 1-month-old kittens were prescribed human meds. Are they safe?

I would have your other cat looked at just to make sure it is safe to give those particular meds. Without seeing the patient I cannot say for sure whether or not it is safe. Your vet prescribes certain meds depending on the health of each individual animal and what is going on with them. Also, depending on the meds prescribe, some are only good for 10-14 days and are no longer effective afterwards.

I would not use another cat's prescription as it may not be the same condition for your kitten. It is best to have the eye examined by your vet so they can rule out any issues such as injury to the eye, infections, etc that may require different treatments.

You should discuss this with the vet that prescribed it as well as any other changes to the signs and symptoms he originally presented with when he was first examined. It is always preferable, although not always possible to use veterinary licensed products and not human versions as they have been specifically formulated with pets in mind. It is impossible to know without a full post mortem examination why your cat passed away.

Chloramphenicol does have some serious side effects in humans, so it is recommend that humans wear gloves when administering the medication to animals. There are lots of other options on antibiotics, but that should be discussed with your vet based on their diagnosis. Deworming is a good idea. Usually when the third eyelids are elevated it is due to a GI issue. I have no idea what medication the vet gave you but most of the medications we use in animals are human medications so if they prescribed it I would assume it is OK to give. Hi, amoxicillin can be used in kittens but how do you give it ? I have witnessed some owners doing more harm then good by administering oral medications to kittens. I would recommend to see your vet so they can be started with a more effective, safe and fast acting injection and then you can continue at home with some oral drops for example. The dosage in kittens would be 10 mg per pound for 5-7 days. Hope this helps,
