Why are my new indoor feral kittens sick, vomiting, and lethargic?

Congratulations on adopting your new kittens! I'm glad that you are going to take them in tomorrow morning. They are young and small. You will need to ensure the smaller one is not becoming dehydrated. Kittens their age can have vomiting and diarrhea secondary to intestinal parasites, stress from coming to a new home, or the diet change. The examination can ensure that is not anything more serious though. In the meantime, encourage them to drink plenty of water. You can offer a small amount of food in the morning. Poor Maggie. There are several things that can cause vomiting and lethargy including hairballs, parasites, upper respiratory infection, eating human food, foreign bodies +/- Gi obstruction, certain viral and bacterial infections and much more. I would stop feeding her milk as most cats eventually get to where they cannot tolerate it. I would try to keep her inside so she can rest and offer her different types of food to try and entice her to eat. If she is still refusing to eat tomorrow or the vomiting is continuing, I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work and even x-rays if needed. Your vet will be able to get her the proper meds to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

Hello. You should take the kitten in to be evaluated as soon as possible. Fleas do carry diseases that can infect cats & kittens, & if there are enough fleas, can actually cause anemia. If the kitten has not been wormed, then the presence of intestinal parasites such as roundworms can weaken a kitten further. If the kitten is vomiting, hiding, or otherwise acting ill, it would be best to bring it to a vet ASAP. It is very possible the kitten is ill, has eaten something it shouldn't or may be injured. If the kittens or mom are not vaccinated, illness and disease can also be easily spread among them. The kitten may also be partially feral (which is why it draws away), however if it is actively vomiting, a vet visit is needed.

Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start them on medications to make them feel better. Poor kittens! If they've been sick for three days with no improvement, and you've already dewormed them with Panacur, I would definitely recommend a vet visit at this point. They may have something more serious such as feline leukemia or panleukopenia, which your veterinarian can test for. At the very least, it sounds like they will need fluids and medication to control the vomiting and diarrhea since it isn't resolving on its own.

I recommend having both kittens examined by a vet as soon as possible, as it is likely that the condition is contagious. To speed up the diagnosis, I recommend bringing a stool sample from the sick kitten in a disposable container for your vet to check for parasites. It is important to have the sick kitten evaluated as kittens can quickly become dehydrated and have low blood sugar, making them feel even worse. While it is unlikely that your son got sick from one of the kittens, it is possible. I recommend that you have him seen by a physician if you are concerned.
