What to do if my new kitten is lethargic, has diarrhea and vomiting?

I think you can safely wait until morning unless the clinical signs seem to persist or get worse. Small cats can definitely dehydrate or become hypoglycemic rather quickly, so persistent vomiting and diarrhea can become a problem. I would also consider separate the sick kitten from the healthy two until you have become certain that there is no infectious or contagious disease. Hope this helps!

If the energy level is normal for this kitten and he is acting otherwise fine, I would continue to monitor and maybe syringe feed some water if he is not drinking enough to help prevent dehydration. If he is lethargic and continues to vomit, then I would take him in to be looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I recommend to have the kittens examined by the veterinarian with in the next day. Many times these kittens will be played with internal and external parasites. Changes in diet and viral infections are also possible causes. There are a few types of parasites which can be transmitted to humans so it is very important to make sure they are treated appropriately to keep the humans in the household safe. I also recommend to look into a trap neuter release program for the mother cat to help control the population. One female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year and this can lead to disease outbreaks and sanitation concerns. Best of luck.

I recommend having both kittens examined by a vet as soon as possible, as it is likely that the condition is contagious. To speed up the diagnosis, I recommend bringing a stool sample from the sick kitten in a disposable container for your vet to check for parasites. It is important to have the sick kitten evaluated as kittens can quickly become dehydrated and have low blood sugar, making them feel even worse. While it is unlikely that your son got sick from one of the kittens, it is possible. I recommend that you have him seen by a physician if you are concerned.

It's likely an infection that is causing this. Kittens commonly get gastrointestinal infections at this age and he may have picked it up from the place where he was adopted (incubation periods can be up to two weeks). The fact that he recently got dewormed is coincidental, but I wouldn't be concerned about this being related to the deworming medication. Considering he is lethargic and has vomiting/diarrhea, it's best to have him seen by a vet again. Kittens can quickly become dehydrated with this condition and will likely need some treatment to make him feel better again. For now, it's best to feed a bland diet of boiled chicken. Congrats on your new cat, but I'm sorry Hana isn't doing well! It is concerning that she is experiencing both vomiting and diarrhea, and it could be caused by a change in diet, intestinal worms, a GI illness, or a foreign body among other things. The Drontal can also cause some GI upset as well. I do think it's a good idea that Hana is seen by a vet since she is experiencing both vomiting and diarrhea, and I would see if your vet can see her tomorrow along with your other cat. Hold off on the cat probiotics for now since she is vomiting, and talk to the vet to see if they feel they will be helpful to her. I would withhold food for tonight, she can have water, and then give her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts in the morning to see if she can keep that down. Poor Sushi! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including the new diet, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I hope Sushi starts feeling better quickly!
