My kitten is throwing up repeatedly. When should I see a vet?

I recommend getting your cat seen by your vet or an emergency vet right away. Cats need to eat, if they go more than a few days without eating they can develop serious liver problems which can be fatal. Continuous vomiting for so many hours is very exhausting and dehydrating, so your kitten likely needs some medical intervention to get better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and can better advise you about treatment options.

I would recommend taking Pippa to the vet. IT is not normal for a kitten to vomiting. They can have hair balls but that should not be happening this often. It is possible that Pippa has parasites which can cause vomiting but also diarrhea. I think with all young animals it is best for them to have a good physical exam to help determine the cause for vomiting and provide proper treatment

If the energy level is normal for this kitten and he is acting otherwise fine, I would continue to monitor and maybe syringe feed some water if he is not drinking enough to help prevent dehydration. I recommend to have the kittens examined by the veterinarian with in the next day. Many times these kittens will be played with internal and external parasites. Changes in diet and viral infections are also possible causes. There are a few types of parasites which can be transmitted to humans so it is very important to make sure they are treated appropriately to keep the humans in the household safe. I also recommend to look into a trap neuter release program for the mother cat to help control the population. One female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year and this can lead to disease outbreaks and sanitation concerns. Best of luck.

Poor Kilro! It's likely that he could be suffering from a GI illness or possibly eating something rotten rather than be disgusted by your other's cats smell. I will give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps before having to take him into the vet, but I would also caution about letting him near the mother cat and her kittens. Mother cats can be very protective of their kittens around other cats, and they should be isolated while the kittens are very young to reduce stress. Once the kittens have their eyes open and are more mobile (around four weeks of age), then you can let them around Kilro. As for the home remedy, I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. This sounds like Jemi has a serious GI upset which can be caused by a toxin ingestion, foreign body obstruction or even a kidney problem (not as common in younger pets unless a congenital abnormality exists). Cats are masters at hiding illness because they are not fully domesticated animals. It is good that Jemi is acting normal, which means that you can still start treatment now before she becomes too unstable. Get her seen by your local vet right away for a thorough exam and most likely testing (i.e. bloodwork, x-rays) needs to be done as well to diagnose the underlying problem and get her the medical treatment she needs.
