Why is a female cat following my unneutered male cat? Pregnant?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 10 lbs

I have an outdoor male cat & he's been gone lately for the whole day & returns during the night. Also, a female cat has appeared & she seems to be pregnant or maybe fat. Not very sure. But she's been hanging around my house for a few days & follows my male cat around or just hangs around when he's not home. When they're together they seem to be fine & they don't fight when they're near each other. Is there a reason for her to be following him? Is it because she's ACTUALLY pregnant?

Well, it's hard to say without examining her, but if Magic isn't neutered, then he very definitely could have gotten a female cat pregnant. That would certainly explain the behaviors you're seeing. If she'll let you catch her, you should take her into the vet for definitive diagnosis of pregnancy.

If he is not neutered then I would be suspicious that there is an in heat female somewhere that he is spending time and energy trying to get to. However, there are certainly other possibilities. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure there isn’t something medically concerning going on, and then potentially consider having him neutered. Is my unspayed cat pregnant after her son tried to mate with her?

If the cats did not actually breed then she wouldn't become pregnant. If she goes outdoors it is possible pregnancy could occur from another cat, or if these 2 were unsupervised it is possible they had a successful mating when you weren't home. If you aren't planning on breeding your cat in the future I would recommend getting her spayed.

Can a neutered male cat still get an unspayed female cat pregnant?

Both cats would need to be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if a fertility issue is to blame and to determine which cat has the problem. Cats are induced ovulators, which means mating with a male causes her ovaries to release eggs. So there is a possibility Manu could be pregnant. If you want to mate her, you can try to continue to introduce her to the Persian male, and I would bring her into the vet 45 days after that first time outside for x-rays to confirm if she's pregnant or not.
