My cat is sick and won't eat. What can I feed him before the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 27 days old | 0.44 lbs

My cat didn't want to eat since yesterday night and right licked a bit of wet food and drank a bit of water.Tommorow we are seeing the vet but I am really concerned about him dying this night.Should I stay with him?What can I give him to eat?I am so sad.Please help ASAP!!Thank you!

If you are that concerned maybe there is a local emergency hospital you can bring him too and have him seen immediately. If not, then try gently syringing water and canned food as a slurry. I would stay with him to watch him.

I'm sorry Kip is sick. He should be seen by a veterinarian tomorrow when they are open. He could have gastroenteritis, intestinal parasites, dysbiosis, or potentially a foreign body. They can give him something to help with the vomiting and diarrhea and any other issues they may find. It's good he is drinking water. There isn't anything over the counter that he can have. If he goes a couple hours without vomiting, you can try feeding him a bland diet of scrambled eggs or boiled chicken.

Is that diarrhea? I can give you a home remedy for Kiko to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cutee! From your pictures and description Cutee is very sick. I don't understand why you think the Vets in your area do not care about animals. I would ask your neighbors and friends who they like for their pets Vet care and use that hospital. Sadly Cutee needs to see a Veterinarian. Without examining Cutee and establishing a Veterinary Client Patient Relationship it is against the law for us to diagnose and prescribe medications. Cutee needs an exam, fecal test for worms, a belly X-rays, blood work and likely hospitalization to pull her through this. All you can do at home is keep her safe and warm. You can try kitten milk replacer and bottle feed her. Though if she is over 3-4 weeks old kitten food is fine. She is going to become dehydrated, if she isn't already, if she isn't eating or holding anything down. I am very sorry but what Cutee needs to be seen and examine by a Vet to obtain a diagnosis and receive treatment. I wish you both the best!

What to feed a sick senior cat refusing food before the vet?

BW may have tooth pain or could be nauseous. I recommend giving him canned food which you can water down and make into a gravy, scrambled eggs, low fat cottage cheese, or chicken. I'm glad he will be seeing the vet tomorrow and hopefully they can help him feel better!

My kitten won't eat and cries. Should I take him to an emergency vet?

You can probably wait until the morning to take him in to your regular vet. Just try to keep him calm and comfortable until then the best you can. If he starts crying out in pain for no reason, is vomiting without stopping, or having any bloody vomitus or diarrhea you should take him in tonight. Otherwise he will likely be ok until morning. Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. If possible, you need to seek veterinary care for him immediately. He appears very sick in your pictures and your description. He will likely need blood work and x-rays of his chest to determine why he is so sick. In the meantime, place karo or maple syrup on his gums. This will help if his blood sugar has dropped too low. It will give him a little energy. He will still need care though. I hope this information helps.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Shadow is seriously ill and would benefit from seeing a veterinarian. There is really not much you can do at home at this point. It is hard to know exactly what is going on as her clinical symptoms are a bit non-specific. However, diseases such as pancreatitis or another inflammatory or cancerous process is possible. You could consider your local humane society as they usually offer inexpensive veterinary care. At the very least they can make sure she is stable. Good luck and have a good day!
