What to feed a sick senior cat refusing food before the vet?

I'd have Baby seen by a vet before worrying about what to feed him. It's not normal he vomits up his food whole, and that suggests he is sick. I would take him into a vet first thing in the morning.

She really needs to see a vet when you can get her to one. In the meantime, try feeding her human baby food (meat flavors) and other soft foods. Make the food very soupy like water so she can lap it up. If she won't eat it, you should try syringe feeding again. I would try tuna or canned food or something special for her and bring the bowl to her. I would offer her some and if she does not eat then place a small amount in her mouth and see her reaction. If she slings or drools and overly disgusted by it, then I would stop and let her be, you don't want to create any food aversions for the future. if she swallows it then you can try a little more.

I'm sorry Lucy isn't doing well at the moment! I would offer her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) or some really smelly wet food that has been gently heated such as fish or sardine based. You can also try offering her some boiled ground beef. I hope this helps her eat!

Your cats very likely have gingivitis., or bad teeth or ulcers or injuries in their mouth and will need to be examined by a veterinarian. Please make an appointment tomorrow. They probably are in pain trying to eat. Try offering canned food pate style until they can be seen by a vet.

With gastrointestinal disease, sometimes the intestines are just unable to absorb nutrients regardless of the type of food you feed. So, it is important to feed Elvis whatever he will eat. There are no natural remedies, as there is no quick medical fixes, either. Oral steroids often help for a while, but then other medications are often needed. You can try some of the cat foods labeled as sensitive stomach or sensitive skin. The best ones are made by Science Diet & Royal Canin. I would also try him on a good probiotic, like Purina's FortiFlora. It really does seem to help some of these cats with GI issues. I hope this helps Elvis with his weight loss & vomiting.
