My runt kitten needs to grow. Is egg yolk safe to add to KMR?

Can't afford a vet, but wondering if I supplemented My runt, Buckwheats kmr with an egg yolk could that help her grow faster from the extra proteins. I refuse to allow failure to thrive.

No, I wouldn't give Buckwheat egg yolk. She isn't used to solid food, and adding that egg yolk (especially raw ones) can lead to vomiting and diarrhea, which will cause her to be dehydrated and lose more weight. I can give you some resources which may help you afford a vet. You an see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website.

Keep here supported with plenty of food and warmth. I don't recommend adding anything to the formula as that can upset the nutritional balance, but at her age you can start offering canned kitten food mixed with the KMR. She will get messy, but transitioning her to more substantial food may help her hang in there. Feed the best kitten food you can afford to and work on getting her in to see the vet.
Ask if they take Care Credit and apply online. This is a credit card specifically for medical, dental, and veterinary expenses.

I agree that it sounds like Buckwheat is the runt of the litter, and they do tend to struggle more than their littermates. You are doing the right thing by supplementing with KMR, and he's unfortunately still too young to wean him. I'm not sure how often you are feeding him with KMR, but I would discuss with your vet increasing supplementation to try to get him to gain some weight. Also make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, as intestinal worms can prevent him from gaining weight. Finally, I would have him seen by your vet to discuss additional meals with KMR and the vet may have other suggestions to help him thrive.

My kitten has diarrhea after eating egg yolk. Is it why she's licking?

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I only recommend commercial kitten food for kittens. It is possible that the egg yolk was too rich for her and is now causing the diarrhea. Cats are extremely clean and she is likely licking herself to remove the leaking stool. Since she is so young and the diarrhea is so bad I would take her to your Vet for medications. I would try to not give her table food since she seems to have a sensitive stomach. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, metabolic conditions. But if her stools were normal before the egg yolk then it is likely that. I hope this helps and I wish Noushmc a speedy recovery!

Hello, Coco needs to be fed a well balanced diet. Ideally any commercial kitten food is better than egg yolk and milk. Please feed her wet or dry kitten food as milk and egg yolk is not well balanced. Hope this helps and best of luck.

How to help a weak, emaciated rescued kitten survive and thrive?

I would recommend having the kitten checked out by a vet. It likely needs to be tested for intestinal parasites (worms and coccidia are common), get started on vaccinations, and be evaluated for congenital issues. It is old enough to go on kitten food, so I would mix kitten milk replacer with wet kitten food. You can also use a nutritional supplement like NutriCal. If it has any fleas, use an age appropriate flea preventative as fleas can cause anemia in tiny kittens. Pet probiotics are also a good idea. How to care for an abandoned kitten on my porch without KMR?

It is difficult to see how healthy Blacky is from the pictures, but she does look a bit thin. I would see if you can get a dewormer from the local pet store and give that to her. Make sure it is the right dose by checking the label on the bottle or box; don't just trust pet store owner's advice. You can feed her milk mixed with raw egg for the time being. I would leave her out on the porch (if it's safe from dogs) in the box for another day to see if Mom comes back. If she doesn't, then you have a couple of options: 1) Bring her to the Blue Cross in Chenai 2) Keep her and take care of her If you are going to care for her, then you want to seek advice from a veterinarian. I'm sure you can find another one in the area. The Blue Cross should also have some good information on how to keep her healthy.
