My dog drank Dr. Teal's Epsom salt bath water and vomited. Is he okay?

If it was just a tiny amount for example, Bud being a large breed dog, that is not going to be an issue. However, if this was a large amount of water, I would recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as that can be an actual issue that requires therapy. Salt toxicity in a excessive amount can be a serious toxicity resulting in gastrointestinal and neurologic signs. I am hoping for a speedy recovery!

There was not likely enough of the chemicals in the water at that point to cause any poison problems. It can however cause vomiting and diarrhea over the next few days, so I would monitor for that. I would keep his food and routine the same

Poor Blue! Too much salt water from the ocean can make a dog vomit, and the excess salt plus the vomiting will cause him to be dehydrated. Make sure he has access to plenty of fresh water, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, he develops seizures (too much salt water can cause this), becomes uncoordinated, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

As these signs are likely to be related to dietary indiscretion, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. It would be a good idea to check some blood work on her, especially her sodium levels. X-rays will help to ensure that she vomited all of the large pieces of salt. I would not be overly concerned if she vomited most of it up quickly, indeed the salt is more likely to be a concern than the fish. Ensure she has fresh water available but do not allow her to over drink. Mild stomach upsets should settle within 24hoyrs but if persisting or she shows any signs of weakness she should be assessed by your vet

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jergive! How old is he and what kind of dog? I would rinse him again and bathe him again in Dawn dish soap. I wonder if he got a lot of the baking soda in his mouth. Baking soda can be toxic in dogs, especially if small. Vomiting is the first sign of a intoxication. Rinse his mouth out. If he is young and small then he could be very tired from the bathe or just not feel well after the vomiting. If he doesn't start opening his eye and becoming active in an hour should be taken to a vet. I wish you the best!
