My dog drank ocean water and is vomiting food. What should I do?

As long as you have started her vaccinations then I wouldn’t think that you have done anything wrong. She may have consumed a little too much salt water, or it could be completely unrelated. I would consider feeding her a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice his morning. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Seeweed is knows to cause profound vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Please, do not offer Gracee anything to eat or drink for the next 3-4 hrs, then try very small amount of water (2-3 tablespoons). If she keeps it down, you should offer more every 30-40 min. If she takes it ok, you should try and offer her some bland food. Cooked chicken or other lean meat would be the best options. If she is eating, drinking and keeping everything down, you can slowly offer her more food and water and come back to her normal feeding routine over 2-3 days.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Murray! If he keeps vomiting he needs to be seen by a Vet for medications to stop the vomiting. With hold water for 6 hours and food for 24 hours. If there is no vomiting in the 6 hours offer shallow water only sips at a time. If he holds water down off a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice at the 24 hour mark. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day. If he refuses to eat, continues to vomit and is extremely lethargic he needs to be seen. Good luck!

Poor Jake! It's quite serious that he is vomiting after drinking water, and I would not feed him at this point in time. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, and if the vomiting stops, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Should Jake keep vomiting water, vomits in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately.

I suspect that he may have drank salt water. This can cause vomiting and diarrhea. The white foam and bile is OK and just indicates that she's vomiting on an empty stomach. If she is otherwise acting normal, then it's best to just wait for a few hours and let the stomach rest. Do not give good for at- least five hours after the last vomit, but make sure she has plenty of water. You can also add Pedialyte to the water to help prevent dehydration. When you do feed her again, make sure to only give a quarter of the amount she normally gets. If she keeps that down after two hours, you can give her a little more and then feed normally at the next meal time. If she is acting very depressed, or continually vomits for more than 12 hours, then it's best to take her to the vet for treatment. I hope that helps and Jess gets better soon.

Hi Samantha! Poor Mayce, it sounds like the salt water made her ill. You can give her some pedialyte to see if that helps, but it does sounds like she may be constipated if her poop is hard. That could be from dehydration, so you can also try soaking her dry food in warm water to get more moisture into her system.
