My dog swallowed salt and vomited. Could it be salt poisoning?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 42 lbs

Our 2.5 year old Samoyed swallowed a large piece of Himalaya Salt while yesterday evening and just through up a few times, first small piercers, then a big chunk. I think all of it might be out now, but I can’t be sure, and I am afraid it of any damage it may have done internally. There was no blood in the vomit. Should I go see a vet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Skaja. Yes, I do recommend seeing a veterinarian as salt toxicity can be serious. It would be a good idea to check some blood work on her, especially her sodium levels. X-rays will help to ensure that she vomited all of the large pieces of salt. Based on these results, a treatment plan can be formulated if necessary. I hope this information helps. Good luck!
