My dog swallowed salt and vomited. Could it be salt poisoning?

It's unlikely that a tiny bit of rock salt will affect a dog as big as Loki significantly, however salt poisoning can definitely be a big problem in dogs, and the only way to know for sure is to test the blood levels of sodium to see if they are significantly elevated. If hypernatremia (elevated sodium) is the problem, dogs need aggressive intravenous fluid therapy in order to recover, so I would urge you to get this checked right away if you do suspect salt poisoning.

No she/he should be fine if it was just salt. It takes a lot of salt ingestion to cause any immediate concerns in pets (salt intoxication). So if it was only a small amount you don't have anything to worry about. Just make sure to offer her/him some water and access to water at all times, so if she/he needs to they can rebalance their body by diluting out the salt. Also I would refrain from giving him/her any people foods that are high in salt for the next 24 hrs, only regular dog food. If by chance your pet did ingest a large amount of salt then watch out for signs of trouble which include ataxia (drunken walk), panting, mental dullness, and vomiting. If seen then it is best to take him/her to your vet immediately for treatment.

I would not be overly concerned if she vomited most of it up quickly, indeed the salt is more likely to be a concern than the fish. Ensure she has fresh water available but do not allow her to over drink. Mild stomach upsets should settle within 24hoyrs but if persisting or she shows any signs of weakness she should be assessed by your vet

Poor Rascal! I recommend having him skip one meal to allow his stomach time to settle. Continue to offer him fresh water, and if you notice vomiting/diarrhea/ lack of appetite or decreased energy, I recommend seeing your vet. Sometimes unusual or new foods (especially salty foods like pretzels) can be upsetting to a dog's stomach, and it's important to get vet care for Rascal if you notice theses signs to help prevent the risk of dehydration and worsening of his symptoms. Poor Blue! Too much salt water from the ocean can make a dog vomit, and the excess salt plus the vomiting will cause him to be dehydrated. Make sure he has access to plenty of fresh water, and I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, he develops seizures (too much salt water can cause this), becomes uncoordinated, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

As long as you have started her vaccinations then I wouldn’t think that you have done anything wrong. She may have consumed a little too much salt water, or it could be completely unrelated. I would consider feeding her a bland diet such as boiled chicken and rice his morning.
