Is it safe to use crystal litter for my cat after paw surgery?

Their dust free paper non-clumping kind would be okay. The main objective is to use a litter that is less likely to get into the small incisions on her toes in case there is an open area. Any traditional clay or clumping litter is NOT recommended. Litter in the form of pellets that don’t break apart is what you are looking for. You can also use shredded paper. I would not recommend applying Quadritop to her incisions - it contains a corticosteroid that could inhibit healing. You may want to try a compressed paper litter like Yesterday's News since the corn could still get stuck in her incisions even though she's not scratching in the box.

I'm so sorry to hear about Quincy's traumatic event! I would try to avoid a typical clumping litter until his paws have healed a bit more, as the dust and tiny debris can get lodged into the wounds on his paws and make matters worse. Since he won't use the Yesterday's News, you can also try simply using shredded paper or another pelleted litter. If all else fails, you could also try putting old towels in the litter box that you don't mind discarding. I hope that Quincy makes a speedy recovery!

I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking. Young kittens will mouth everything and try out everything to find out whether it is edible. Therefore I would wait until they are about 3 months old before using that kind of litter. You can use shredded paper or plant based litter before that, as this will not be detrimental should it be ingested.

A peat/soil based or sawdust based pellet is less likely to stick to his paws, you can also try using only a bare scattering of litter over newspaper but this would then need emptying at least twice daily

Prince may need a change or an addition of pain medications if he is still yowling in pain. You can try using a litter pan - you can use a cookie sheet with just a small amount of litter on it. You may also want to consider using a litter alternative while the splint is on. Yesterday's news, shredded paper, or pellet-types of litter are easier to clean off the splint and fur and to keep from getting inside the splint. It may take a few more days for Prince to figure out how to get in a comfortable position to urinate or have a bowel movement. I would call your vet about the pain medications and see if they recommend a change.
