What litter is best for my cat's injured paws if he won't use pellets?

Their dust free paper non-clumping kind would be okay. The main objective is to use a litter that is less likely to get into the small incisions on her toes in case there is an open area. Any traditional clay or clumping litter is NOT recommended. Litter in the form of pellets that don’t break apart is what you are looking for. You can also use shredded paper. I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking. A peat/soil based or sawdust based pellet is less likely to stick to his paws, you can also try using only a bare scattering of litter over newspaper but this would then need emptying at least twice daily

Use only shredded paper or a paper litter called “Yesterday’s News” for the 14 days after surgery. Crystal Litter may also be used, however if the paw is not wrapped or bandaged, I would stick with paper litter.

I would not recommend applying Quadritop to her incisions - it contains a corticosteroid that could inhibit healing. You may want to try a compressed paper litter like Yesterday's News since the corn could still get stuck in her incisions even though she's not scratching in the box.

Prince may need a change or an addition of pain medications if he is still yowling in pain. You can try using a litter pan - you can use a cookie sheet with just a small amount of litter on it. You may also want to consider using a litter alternative while the splint is on. Yesterday's news, shredded paper, or pellet-types of litter are easier to clean off the splint and fur and to keep from getting inside the splint. It may take a few more days for Prince to figure out how to get in a comfortable position to urinate or have a bowel movement. I would call your vet about the pain medications and see if they recommend a change.

If one of Noushmc's paws seem to be wounded, I would recommend she see her veterinarian soon to take a closer look at the paw so it can be evaluated properly. If the underlying tissue is exposed, the paw can become infected and the litter can potentially be problematic if the wound is large enough. You can try using 3% hydrogen peroxide instead of the vinegar and water until you are able to get her seen by her veterinarian. I hope this helps!
