What litter for my blind senior cat with balance and clumping paws?

I'm so sorry to hear about Quincy's traumatic event! I would try to avoid a typical clumping litter until his paws have healed a bit more, as the dust and tiny debris can get lodged into the wounds on his paws and make matters worse. Since he won't use the Yesterday's News, you can also try simply using shredded paper or another pelleted litter. It's worth a shot to see if it is just the brand rather than the litter format. As cats can be picky about litter types, be sure to do a gradual changeover to the new litter to prevent Olivia from avoiding it or using elsewhere to go potty. A litter mat outside of the box may also help wipe her feet and fur some, reducing the spread throughout the house.

I would recommend using shredded paper in her litter box instead of sand or litter if she has infected toes. Do not apply topical medication. If she is licking her feet excessively she may need an e-collar or something to help prevent her from licking. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lucy. If she has mobility and vision issues, I recommend using a non-traditional litterbox. You can purchase a large storage container such as a Sterilite. Then use the lid as a litterbox. This provides a large surface area with a very low lip. It will be messy if she digs and buries, but I have had many geriatric patients prefer this to a normal litterbox. I hope this information helps!

You could try a corn or wheat based litter like World's Best Cat Litter or Swheat Scoop, or a wood litter like Okocat if you want to avoid clay litter. You could also try a clay based low dust litter like Dr. Elsey's. Even though she is used to pellets the transition to a clay litter could be fine - I'd start by putting out a litter box with the new litter while still keeping the old one and if she starts using the new one take the old one away.

Their dust free paper non-clumping kind would be okay. The main objective is to use a litter that is less likely to get into the small incisions on her toes in case there is an open area.
