My young cat has white fluid coming from his anus. Should I worry?

That could typically be due either to anal gland infection/inflammation or diarrhoea with liquid feces. A check up is necessary if the signs are not resolving, despite a change in the dietary regime (bland diet with chicken and rice for the next 3-4 days). Antibiotics and anal gland expression may be needed.

I'm guessing Good has watery diarrhea, although anal glands could also produce a small amount of bad smelling fluid that could leak from her anus. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian if you aren't sure what this fluid it. If it seems to be diarrhea parasites would be a possible cause. Anal glands can become infected or impacted and produce more fluid than normal.

It can leak out when the glands are full or if something scares the cat, they can express them. The anal glands normally are expressed during defecation. I would have the anal glands checked by your Vet. If he is starting to spray around the house I would have him neutered. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

It could be dis charge from his anal glands. Normally, the glands are emptied during the act of defecation. Sometimes though, the glands become impacted then infected. An abscess will form then eventually rupture and drain. If there is no redness, swelling or discharge around the anus, look for swelling elsewhere. If he is an outdoor cat, a bite wound abscess is a possibility. They can be difficult to spot without a close exam and maybe shaving a swollen area. Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. Especially if he is lethargic, feverish or not eating.

It possible you are seeing the opening of the anal glands with some waxy exudate built up in the opening. Cats will generally keep themselves clean but some are better than others. Not all cats require treatment for anal glands but you want want to call your veterinarian and ask. Also, you may be able to keep the area clean by soaking it with a warm wet cotton ball or a gentle cleaning once a day. I hope this helps.

The glands are situated inside the rectum and they have fluid that is released when they have a bowel movement or when they are scared. When you say he is still sick, I understand that you are concerned he has a fever; but what other symptoms is he showing? Is he vomiting? When you mention he was sitting in the litter box for hours, is he constipated? Was your vet concerned about constipation when you took him in? I suspect that the white thick fluid was from Oreo's anal glands. As far as what you should do at this time, follow the instructions from your vet for the mediations, and if you feel like Oreo is getting worse, or that the medication isn't helping, take him back to your vet. If your vet is closed for the holiday, they will have a message of where you should call if you have an emergency. Please seek emergency care if: *Oreo is becoming very lethargic, is reluctant or unable to move, or seems very painful. *If Oreo is spending a lot of time in the box posturing to urinate and no urine is coming out *If Oreo is vomiting all water and food or if he has gone more than 3 entire days without eating anything *If breathing becomes labored (working hard to breathe) at any point Otherwise, call your vet tomorrow and get him back in fro a recheck.
