Why does my kitten have black waxy stuff coming from his butt?

Judging from the picture you provided, I see black waxy material and also a tattoo that has been done on the inside of the pinna. The tattoo is likely to indicate that she has been spayed and it is in the pattern of a circle with a linear line through it. That is not a concern at all and will be permanent. The black wax may be due to ear mites or an ear infection though. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Fluffy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Hello, cats have 2 anal glands that produce anything from a white milky substance to a dark colored substance. These glands are normal and provide some of the scent and lubrication to feces while pets defecate. In some instances one or both of these glands can become infected and need to be treated with surgery and/or antibiotics. If Sokka is scooting, having painful defecations or licking at the area, has swelling or bloody discharge then have him evaluated immediately. Otherwise, its likely that you may be seeing normal production from these glands. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Those are the openings to the anal glands. Sometimes some dried anal gland material can accumulate at the opening. If Poopsie is not scooting or licking excessively I think you can wait to see your vet for an appointment.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Maty. Sometimes anal gland material and can dry up and be present near the gland opening at the anus. The red spot in your final picture appears to be separate from the anus though. In this case, an anal gland abscess or infection could be the cause. This is a painful condition and can cause difficulty defecating. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian to determine if treatment is necessary. I hope this information helps!

Looks like bad hygiene to me. I wouldn't be worried about a parasite infestation or anything like that, because there are not any that really do this and nothing else appears like this. You can remove these by gently wiping with cotton and warm water. If it is a recurring problem, then I would suspect some intestinal disturbance causing loose stool. Loose stools can also lead to anal sac issues, so this may be related. It's best to have your vet examine him if this continues to be an issue. I hope that helps and all is well with Maihan.

Swelling of the anus/rectum could be due to constipation/hard stools, anal gland issues, allergies, irritation, or other problems. You would need to have the area looked at by your vet to determine what is going on and get the appropriate treatment. Be sure to let your vet known of any other issues you may have seen such as changes in appetite, energy levels, stool habits, etc. You can also use an Elizabethan (cone) collar to prevent your cat from licking/chewing at the affected area if it is bothersome until you can get to your vet.

It is hard to tell for sure whether this is poop or a growth; however, at this age dried poop is more probable. You can try some KY jelly or Vaseline massages on it for a few days to see if it softens up and falls off. You may also need to do a mild soap and water rinse on the area, if tolerated. This is seen a lot with cats. The poop gets stuck to the mucosa as it exits the rectum and then just sits there for a period of time. As long as the skin itself is not red or irritated looking, or excessive licking ensues, then its fine to try to resolve this on your own. I must also mention though, there is a good chance this will repeat itself, so weekly or bi-weekly maintenance may be needed to help remove the feces and prevent further infections to develop on the skin.
