Why is my male kitten leaking fluid from his anus? Is it anal glands or spray?

I'm guessing Good has watery diarrhea, although anal glands could also produce a small amount of bad smelling fluid that could leak from her anus. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian if you aren't sure what this fluid it. If it seems to be diarrhea parasites would be a possible cause. Anal glands can become infected or impacted and produce more fluid than normal.

That could typically be due either to anal gland infection/inflammation or diarrhoea with liquid feces. A check up is necessary if the signs are not resolving, despite a change in the dietary regime (bland diet with chicken and rice for the next 3-4 days). Antibiotics and anal gland expression may be needed.

Urine can be almost odorless if it is diluted a great deal, especially at this age. This can also potentially be leakage from his reproductive tract. However if it is indeed urine, leaking of urine is never normal. I would recommend taking him to your vet if this continues to happen. He may have a congenital defect or a weakened urinary sphincter (valve that opens and closes to allow urine to exit the bladder) that is causing this. Hopefully though this is something that he will grow out of, but until then you will have to keep an eye on things and get him examined if needed. Best wishes!

It could be dis charge from his anal glands. Normally, the glands are emptied during the act of defecation. Sometimes though, the glands become impacted then infected. An abscess will form then eventually rupture and drain. If there is no redness, swelling or discharge around the anus, look for swelling elsewhere. If he is an outdoor cat, a bite wound abscess is a possibility. They can be difficult to spot without a close exam and maybe shaving a swollen area. Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. Especially if he is lethargic, feverish or not eating.

It sounds like the odor you are describing is discharge from Ed's anal glands. Anal glands are a scent marking gland (as you could guess) since they produce a very strong odor. It is normal to animals to express anal gland material when very stimulated or startled. However, I would recommend having your vet examine Ed's anal glands to make sure they are not overly full. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the brown liquid was very smelly (like rotten eggs mixed with poop) then she likely expressed her anal glands. Anal glands are scent glands inside the anus that are expressed with defecation. If she was scared suddenly they can accidentally release the anal gland material. The other possibility is that she is starting with diarrhea and some leaked out. Keep an eye on the litter box and see how her stools are. The glands are situated inside the rectum and they have fluid that is released when they have a bowel movement or when they are scared. If there was bright red blood I would be concerned they are infected. If it was dark brown, it is normal contents. I hope this helps. Kisses to Suga!
