  Their weight, age and activity levels need to be taken into account when feeding. An average 8 pound cat can eat about 8oz of dry food OR 6oz of canned food per day. You will need to adjust the amount based on the above factors and body condition. You can ask your vet to show you how to assess your cat and get a BCS (body condition score).

  Ideally a cat should consume about 60ml/kg per day; dry food is generally about 10% moisture so for every 100g of food fed she is taking 10ml of fluid and should drink the remainder. Many cats do not voluntarily drink enough, using water fountains, offering rain or cooled boiled water and cooled chicken or fish broth can help to tempt her. I recommend also running a urine sample to see how over concentrated it is

  The average 8-10 pound cat can eat about 6oz of canned food daily. This amount should be divided into two feedings. Since each cat's metabolism and activity are different, this amount can be adjusted to maintain a healthy weight and body condition.
