My cat throws up weekly after eating. When should I see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Male | neutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

My 4 year old Manx cat has been throwing up a small amount after eating. At least once a week. Otherwise he's fine and still has an appetite. He eats Hill's grain free dry food and Royal Canin sensitive digestion wet food. He has feline herpes and takes l-lysine to suppress it. It's not very severe just runny noses and occasionally crusty eyes. Which we clean and suction. Should I take him to the vet or is occasional vomiting not a concern?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bentley. I do recommend that he sees a veterinarian. That is too much vomiting for a cat. He will likely need bloodwork to determine an underlying cause. Vomiting is a vague sign and can be related to many diseases. It is important to diagnose though so treatment can be started. Some disease can get worse if left untreated. I hope this information helps!
