My cat throws up weekly after eating. When should I see a vet?

Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as kidney disease, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Peaches evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Good luck and have a good day!

It could be Max is eating too quickly causing him to throw up. Try getting him a slow feeder bowl to see if that helps. You can find one online or a pet store. If this doesn't help, then I'd have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

I would definitely keep an eye on him, and if he vomits again or doesn't want to eat still, schedule a vet appointment. Issues such as minor GI upset, underlying illness, hairballs or obstructions, parasites, etc can all be possible causes of vomiting, which is why it's important to have it checked out if it continues more than once. If Lando seems in any obvious distress or pain (vocalizing, pacing, attempting to go potty but can't, tender to touch, etc), then he should be seen sooner.

Yes, I do think Sapphire needs to see a vet. Vomiting this much a week isn't normal. I do recommend tests such a blood work and a urinalysis to start. Further tests such as x-rays or ultrasound may be needed as well.

I would recommend taking Pippa to the vet. IT is not normal for a kitten to vomiting. They can have hair balls but that should not be happening this often. It is possible that Pippa has parasites which can cause vomiting but also diarrhea. I think with all young animals it is best for them to have a good physical exam to help determine the cause for vomiting and provide proper treatment

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Levi. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian again. He will need a thorough work up to determine the cause of all of his vomiting. I would recommend x-rays of his belly and blood work including testing for pancreatitis. Is there a chance he has eaten a foreign object such as a piece of toy? This can cause profuse vomiting. Vomiting has many causes in cats including intestinal worms, overgrooming leading to hair balls or problems with too much hair being ingested, anything that can affect the motility or functioning of the stomach and intestinal tract, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/gallbladder/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. I always tell clients that if signs persist, worsen, or other signs develop you should have your pet evaluated by your veterinarian. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on. Once a diagnosis is made or suspected a sound treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Charlie
