Why is my cat throwing up after dental cleaning and anesthesia?

During the procedure a tube will be inserted into his windpipe, sealing it completely which will eliminate any risks of bile/food aspiration. 99.9% of cats do not experience vomiting during anesthesia anyway.

It all depends on the type of anesthesia. Once the drugs do kick in, it tends to be fast (many medications do slow the heart rate) and some pet' may vomit in response to the medication. I recommend to ask this question to your veterinarian who knows what medications the used on Si and will be better able to answer if this was a normal response or not. I hope this helps.

Poor Conchita. If she hasn't had these dental treats before, they can certain causing her vomiting. Withhold food until the morning, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Poor girl. It is not normal for a pet to have continuous vomiting and lack of appetite post dental extractions. If she was sent home with an NSAID to take that helps with pain and inflammation, then that could be the underlying cause of her symptoms. This would be considered an adverse reaction to the medication. If she seems like she can't control her vomiting and is very unstable, then yes an ER visit may be best for her. At the very least she needs to be seen within the next 12 hrs if possible, to get her treatment to stop the vomiting and help settle her stomach. I wouldn't be too concerned at this point if the dental was only just done today. Your dog underwent a pretty significant procedure and may not be the same for a couple of days. Give the pain medication as directed by your veterinarian unless your dog vomits again. If this is the case, call your vet about switching to something else. Post-anesthetic nausea is not uncommon so you might consider giving some pepsid or prilosec if you have any around the house. Hope this helps.

While I am unclear what you are specifically referring to in terms of his behavior, it is fairly common for cats and dogs to feel differently and show signs such as lethargy and sedation for 24-36 hours following anesthesia.
