My cat got 5mg Valium. Is that too much for an 8-year-old 10kg cat?

Dr Hinson My sister gave him 5mg of valium. Licorice is 8 yrs old and weighs about 10kg. Normally a good cat but very fussy male

Sorry for my delayed reply. Is he really 10kg? That is a big cat! Even for a cat that size 5mg is a bit high. At the very high end of the dose he would only get 4mg. I think what you are seeing is over excitement from the high dose. Just let him "sleep it off". If he doesn't seem better in 24 hours he needs to see a vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
