My cat got 5mg Valium. Is that too much for an 8-year-old 10kg cat?

How many milligrams of valium did she give? How much does Licorice weigh? Giving him that was not a good idea. It sounds like he has paradoxical hyper excitement from an overdose. We need more information to be helpful so please post again . Thank you.

Yes, I would agree with the second Vet and recommend to inject Diazepam only in case of seizure. It does not make pharmacologically and therapeutic sense to give Diazepam daily. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Camilla! Disorientation, anxiety, panting and not acting normal are normal post seizure. This period can last up to 24 hours. Sometimes the recovery period can be different after each seizure. We can not prescribe medications with out examining Camila. If your Vet has prescribed valium for Camila then I would follow the instructions they provided. There is no interaction with valium, phenobarbital and potassium bromide. If they didn't you will have to get the dosing from them. As long as she isn't having any more seizures I would hold off on any additional medications right now and let her recover. If she has 2-3 seizures in a 24 hour period she needs to be seen by a Vet. I wish you the best!

Fortunately, this is pretty safe, so while it's recommended to give those treats in moderation, I wouldn't be overly worried if Bug is acting normal. I recommend stopping the treats for a few days while Bug metabolizes what he's gotten, and then giving the treats according to the package guidelines going forward. Of course, if you are worried (or if Bug seems excessively sleepy or wobbly on his feet) then I recommend reaching out to your regular vet. But my suspicion is he'll do just fine! Hope this helps!

Ativan can be given up to a dosage of 0.0.5 mg per 1lb, meaning she got the maximum therapeutic dosage, it's not likely to be toxic is she ate only one tablet but she will likely be sedated in the next 8 hours (she will most likely go to sleep).

Actually now the recommend medication is gabapentin. Ask your veterinarian for some and give it before the visit. With this the cats are just mellow, easy to handle and not as drugged as with the other medications. Diazepam is not used much in cats now due to it causing liver problems. Apromazine can make them sedate but doesn’t reduce the aggression. I personally don’t find Xanax effective.
