My cat's tooth is too long and looks bad. Is this normal? What to do?

I see you have a snaggletooth kitty! If you mean the little incisor on the right, do nothing, it will fall out by itself. She has already lost a canine tooth, which, in itself is not a problem, however I would have the veterinarian look at her teeth soon. She may have excessive tartar, gingivitis and /or FORL (lesions on the tooth roots) which make the teeth fall out and are painful. Tank may need a teeth cleaning under anesthesia to make sure her mouth is healthy again and not lose more teeth. Gingivitis and tartar can also lead to detrimental bacteria entering the blood stream and causing heart and kidney disease. So dental cleaning is important when there are indications of dental disease.

They are a bit longer than in most cats though if this is not causing him an issue like pain or irritation of the gums then it is not an issue that needs treatment. I would definitely recommend leaving it alone because you could cause some pain and injury by wiggling on it. However I would consider having your vet take a look at it because safe extraction if the canine tooth may be recommended to avoid having a huge hole left behind for foodstuffs to then get clogged into. If your vet extracts the tooth instead of just letting it fall out, the vet can then close the hole with suture. This is the best approach when dealing with diseases canine teeth especially, because this is the only tooth that can leave a hole that directly communicates with the nasal passages (oronasal fistula), so we take extra precautions with this tooth in particular. It sounds like Rider likely has severe dental disease, as it is not normal for teeth to just fall out like that. Dental disease may not be visible on the outside, but can cause teeth to fall out as described. A dental cleaning and oral exam performed by your veterinarian while Rider is under anesthesia can help treat any disease present, and will allow your vet to check and see if the tooth that fell out left any pieces behind. Dental disease can be extremely painful, but cats will often continue to eat and drink despite the pain. If left untreated the infection from dental disease may get much worse and spread to elsewhere in the body, causing further pain, so it's important that you have Rider seen by a vet.

So sorry that your cat is having this problem. You could take him to a veterinary dental specialist and see if the specialist will remove his tooth. Or find another vet in your area and take him for a second opinion. If his blood work is normal and he is in otherwise good health, then the risk of extracting a bad tooth is low. Good observation. These are retained baby teeth. They should be out by now, but it looks like the permanent tooth did not push it out. These teeth do tend to cause problems, because it's easy for debris to get trapped in-between the two teeth and cause infection. For this reason, we usually recommend removal of the tooth. If Simba is a kitten, it is normal to lose the baby teeth while the adult teeth grow in. If Simba is an adult cat and this was an adult tooth, it is best to have him examined by a vet to rule out health issues causing tooth loss.
