My 5-month-old kitten has extra canine teeth. What should I do?

That appears to be a deciduous (baby) tooth. You can see the adult tooth near it and next to the other canine on the right side. If she will allow and you can do it safely, wipe the tooth with a piece of gauze. It should come away. Have her examined by your veterinarian tomorrow. She may need a dental x-ray to rule out retained roots.kittens will begin to lose teeth between 3-4 months of age. By 7 months, the adult teeth should be fully erupted.

Hi, what you are seeing is his adult teeth coming in and his baby teeth haven't fallen out yet. this does not cause pain and is not a medical issue unless he gets to be over 1.5 years and they have not fallen out. The retained baby teeth can get food stuck in them and cause dental disease. I would not worry about it until his is older. Good luck, I hope this helps!

I would hold off on taking Oliver in the vet just yet to see if his baby canines fall out on their own. If they do not fall out in a week or so, then yes I would take him into the vet to discuss having them extracted. Best of luck!

By six months of age they should have all their adult teeth. I am unable to tell what you are referring to in the photo as when I enlarge it, it is very grainy. That premolar tooth you have circled is typically smaller than the others. It could be normal or it could be a baby tooth that never came out but honestly, in over 30 years in this industry, I have never seen that in a cat. Even if it is a baby tooth it will not cause him any harm. If you are very worried you should have your vet check it in person. I would not be concerned about it.

I would definitely recommend leaving it alone because you could cause some pain and injury by wiggling on it. However I would consider having your vet take a look at it because safe extraction if the canine tooth may be recommended to avoid having a huge hole left behind for foodstuffs to then get clogged into. If your vet extracts the tooth instead of just letting it fall out, the vet can then close the hole with suture. This is the best approach when dealing with diseases canine teeth especially, because this is the only tooth that can leave a hole that directly communicates with the nasal passages (oronasal fistula), so we take extra precautions with this tooth in particular. Typically the baby premolars will fall out between 16-20 weeks of age, so it could be possible that Chid has pulled out his adult teeth, but from the picture, these do not look like adult teeth. I suspect that his premolars are later coming out, and that's what he pulled out. I would have him seen by a vet just to be safe, and show the vet the teeth. I hope this helps!

So if Luci does not have an adult canine tooth by 6 months it could indicate an issue with her dentition. Perhaps at the time of her spay dental x-rays could be taken if her adult tooth does not emerge. Sometimes after the loss of a tooth part of the tooth root is retained. X-rays can ensure that the root is not still present. Retained roots can cause health issues later in life.
