My cat's eye ulcer healed, but he still squints. Should I worry?

I do recommend a follow up but if she is no longer squinting and the cornea is clear, not cloudy, and the conjunctiva is not red or swollen then you are fine to finish the medication as directed and monitor her at home for problems. It’s possible that Pepper could have an ulcer or scar tissue associated with the infection. I would have her examined by a vet to see if she needs additional medications and to determine why she is still squinting.

I am also concerned about his eye, but it is difficult to say what is going on without doing my own exam in person. He could have developed a condition where the iris forms almost a scar tissue connecting it to the cornea which will sometimes misshapen the iris. Ferris should not be bothered by it though. Most cats do not squint or develop eye discharge at this point. . I would have your vet take a look at it again or you could get a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Sometimes you need to see an ophthalmologist in order for them to do additional tests to diagnosis what is going on. I hope this helps!

In this case a picture of the area would be essential to determine the underlying cause. Persistent corneal ulcers due to infections, corneal sequestrum and corneal scars and many others are all possible. Please repost your question and attach a pic to it.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the pictures you posted it does not look that there is anything very serious going on with her left eye. Squinting the eye could be result of trauma (usually scratch from another cat) or infection. Please, keep wiping the eye and giving her soothing eye drops. If the eye is not back to normal after 5-6 days, you will have to try and get her seen by a vet.

If there was no ulcer present, it's possible that the corneal edema is related to infection or glaucoma. There are a few inherited diseases that can cause corneal edema as well. If the current treatment is no longer helping you should recheck with your veterinarian. You may also want to ask about referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist who might be able to better determine what is causing the edema.
