Cat's eye boogery and squinting after URI antibiotics. What's wrong?

This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Kilo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. It is very common for an upper respiratory tract infection to also cause eye symptoms. This may include a clear watery discharge and inflammation of the eyelids and conjunctiva. If the discharge becomes thick and yellow/ green or your cat squints or is holding the eye closed, she should be rechecked and started in eye medication as well. The cloudiness is probably due to the infection, the eye ointment should be treating it. if it seems to be getting worse in the next couple days you should bring her back to the vet to get it checked.

Yes, a lot of times an upper respiratory infection in a cat will cause conjunctivitis and other eye issues. So it's definitely possible that Argyle picked up something from your new cat. Things such as feline herpes and chylamydia are some respiratory diseases that can cause eye problems. You are also correct that although a corneal scratch is possible it is less likely because both eyes are affected. Because the eyes are involved I recommend having Argyle seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Eye infections can escalate quickly so it's best to start treating them right away. In the mean time you can start a lysine supplement as this will sometimes help hasten recovery from a viral infection. I hope Argyle recovers quickly! Unfortunately, it appears that his infection was not completely cleared when the antibiotics finished. This happens sometimes, where the infection requires a longer than normal treatment period. I recommend having Smokey rechecked by your veterinarian, so they can further evaluate his condition and give another treatment plan. I hope that helps and Smokey gets better soon.

Upper respiratory disease is very common in kittens and often times the eyes can be a target of infection for the various viruses and bacteria that are associated with feline URI's. I always stress the important of getting eye problems seen immediately and early since the eyes are very important sense organs and they can deteriorate rather quickly. Your vet can examine the eyes, evaluate for the presence of an upper respiratory infection and then advise tests to closer evaluate the eyes themselves. This includes staining of the eye to look for corneal damage (outer surface), tear production, and measuring the pressure inside the eye. Often times we just stain the eyes and want to see the integrity of the cornea. Once a diagnosis is made of corneal scratch/damage or not, treatment can be advised. We use many different approaches for this disease. Oral antibiotics, Eye drops/ointments, nasal drops, L-lysine as a supplement since it affects viral replication, antiviral medicines, probiotics to enhance the gut immunity, deworming to decrease added stress on the kitten, and vaccines to try to boost the immune response towards these viruses. So I would make an appointment and see your vet today. You and Suga will feel better.
