My kitten's eye cleared from infection, but still squints. Is it okay?

Poor Keanu! If he is still squinting then it is likely still bothering him and not completely healed. I would let your vet know. Your vet will likely want to see him again and make sure there isn't a small ulcer left or an eyelash or other issue causing his discomfort. If left untreated, the eye could get worse really quickly. I am also concerned about his eye, but it is difficult to say what is going on without doing my own exam in person. He could have developed a condition where the iris forms almost a scar tissue connecting it to the cornea which will sometimes misshapen the iris. Ferris should not be bothered by it though. Most cats do not squint or develop eye discharge at this point. . I would have your vet take a look at it again or you could get a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Sometimes you need to see an ophthalmologist in order for them to do additional tests to diagnosis what is going on. I hope this helps!

I agree that Sprinkles' right eye appears to have a good bit of discharge and squinting. While it's possible that this issue could be caused by an infection, I would expect both eyes to be affected. When only one eye squints, I worry more about corneal ulcers or abrasions. The only way to know for sure is to take Sprinkles to a vet for a physical exam, including eye evaluation. Since Sprinkles is feral, this process is likely to be more challenging, so you may want to ask your vet if they can prescribe a mild oral sedative like gabapentin to be given before the appointment. Depending on what is found, Sprinkles will likely need to receive eye medication at least twice per day, so he may need to be kept inside or in a safe, confined area until this issue has resolved. Eye issues can change and progress rapidly, so it's best to have him evaluated as soon as possible. Until then, keep him confined and try to put an e-collar (cone) on him if at all possible to prevent any rubbing or scratching of this eye. I hope that he's on the mend soon!

It looks like that left eye may have some ongoing damage ongoing problem with the cornea clear, (front part of the eye). Does she seem like she can see? Does she walk along walls (as though looking to be leaning in for a knowledge of where she is), does she bump into things? If she does not bump into things and DOES seem to be able to see, then her pupils are probably functioning appropriately even if you can't see it. However it is possible too that she has some lens changes... the lens in the left eye looks a bit cloudy in the picture. As long as she's an indoor cat, it shouldn't matter too much whether or not she can see. Most blind animals do quite well and function great as pets. Coco could have an eye infection, or could have a scrape or ulcer on her eye - this is a very common injury! There can be more "internal" eye problems that cause squinting too - glaucoma, uveitis, etc. External problems such as injury and infection are the most common in cats, however. It's best to have Coco seen by the vet to make sure the cause of the squinting is identified and properly treated.
