My cat had kittens and isn't vaccinated. Can I still get her spayed?

Most vets do not recommend doing the vaccines for the first time and surgery in the same visit, but a few days in between is usually sufficient. Spaying will prevent your female cat from going into heat, so it will likely deter your male cat from trying to breed.

Good on you for vaccinating her! I would get the chlamydia vaccine as soon as possible for her as it's highly contagious. You can do it as soon as two weeks after the rabies vaccine. It's recommend to wait until after Sam has her kittens before vaccinating her. Keep her indoors all the time and away from other cats if you don't know their vaccine status. Keep her away from unvaccinated cats, who can make her sick. Best of luck.

The cost of a spay varies greatly but the least expensive option typically is doing it at your local humane society which you may qualify for. If she is early in her pregnancy, then spaying would be ok. Late in pregnancy you would be asking the vet to kill the kittens individually, and it would be hard healthwise on the cat. Not every vet would agree to spay cats late in pregnancy. Abortion with medication is not usually practiced. You may want to start finding homes for the kittens already, before they are born. Leave them with mommy for around 10 weeks. Kittens need their mother until then for a healthy development and for learning everything a kitten needs to learn.
