My kitten isn't vaccinated. Is breeding him risky for future kittens?

Oh no! That is very frustrating to not be told the truth, but it is a good thing you know now. It is a little difficult to assess risk if it is uncertain if your kitten was raised by its mother. If so, and she was vaccinated, she could have passed some maternal antibodies on to your kitty. The biggest risk for kittens is through exposure to other cats. If your kitty is an indoor kitty with no other contact with other cats this significantly decreases his risk. What is most important now is to start his vaccinations with your vet, to have him tested for the kitty viruses (feline leukemia and FIV), and to have him checked for intestinal parasites (if not already performed/dewormer given). Just because he is older does not mean he can not get his vaccines, he will just need less vaccines than a younger kittens. Typically we vaccinate with FVRCP (for kitty upper respiratory viruses and panleukopenia) and rabies. If your kitty will eventually be going outside then vaccination for feline leukemia (after a negative test) is important. Your family vet can set up a schedule for Chase at his first visit. Oh no, it's not good that Milo ate this pad! I am having difficulties looking up the ingredients of the product since it is originally from Japan. There is the potential that it could contain ingredients toxic to Milo, and without seeing the ingredients myself, I can't say if he will be ok or not. I recommend calling the Pet Poison Hotline at 855-764-7661. There is a $59US charge for the call, but they have veterinary toxicologists available 24/7. You can tell them the ingredients of the KoolFever, and they can let you know what needs to be done for Milo. Good luck!

Hello, Rules on vaccination for spaying cats will vary from every independent hospital. I would recommend calling low cost spay and neuter programs in your area to discuss getting her spayed and at minimal, a rabies vaccination. Many hospitals spay trapped feral cats who have never been vaccinated, so I don't think you will have any problem finding someone to help you out. :) I hope this is helpful! If Brittany has an infection or depressed immune system, she may not be able to mount a proper response to the vaccine so it may not be worth doing. Or worse, it could be more than her immune system can handle at this point and it could make her feel even worse. Save yourself the trouble and wait until Brittany is feeling 100%. Most vets do not recommend doing the vaccines for the first time and surgery in the same visit, but a few days in between is usually sufficient. Spaying will prevent your female cat from going into heat, so it will likely deter your male cat from trying to breed.

I am assuming you are referring to it being due Jan 12 2018? And it is the FVRCP vaccine. If you do not get his vaccinations he will be a risk for those diseases. You need to decide the risk reward for keeping him up to date. Personally I think you should if you have multiple cats, he goes outdoors, if you ever plan on getting more cats or you plan to breed him. I hope this helps and I wish you and Max the best!

Congratulations! What a beautiful kitten! Most vets start a vaccine series between 6-8 weeks of age, and will also deworm or check stool samples at the first visit. Following that, they typically need a visit/booster every 3-5 weeks until they are a few months old. The exact vaccines schedule will be individualized by your vet. They may also recommend parasite prevention or routine dewormers. Other things you can do at home include feeding a high quality kitten food, checking their urine and stool output and getting them used to being handled. Becoming well socialized is very important! Make sure they have plenty of vertical space like a cat tree, handle him gently and frequently - get him used to having his nail trims, etc. Don't let him bite you:) It looks like you are off to a great start!
