My pregnant cat is unvaccinated. What's the best care for her?

It is never recommended to vaccinate a pregnant pet. Modified live virus vaccines should never be given. Killed virus vaccines (such as rabies), may be given later in the pregnancy if necessary but only under the advice and guidance of your veterinarian.

Hello, Rules on vaccination for spaying cats will vary from every independent hospital. I would recommend calling low cost spay and neuter programs in your area to discuss getting her spayed and at minimal, a rabies vaccination. Many hospitals spay trapped feral cats who have never been vaccinated, so I don't think you will have any problem finding someone to help you out. :) I hope this is helpful! The best tip i can give you for her health is to feed her wet and dry kitten food during the pregnancy and as long as she is nursing the kittens, other then that she will take care of all the rest. just make sure you have a quite place where she can feel safe to give birth.

Hello. Make sure your Momma cat has a quiet, safe & secure area to have her kittens, away from noise, other pets, & weather. You can begin feeding her a good kitten food ( dry or canned ) and continue the kitten food up until the kittens are weaned . This will give her extra calories to maintain her pregnancy & provide plenty of rich milk for her kittens. She will probably not leave her babies for the first couple of days, so make sure her litter box, food & water are close by. Because Jiji hasn't been vaccinated before, she will need at least two rounds of vaccines given four weeks apart in order to have full immunity. Vaccinating her on Monday will not be enough to protect her. Make sure your dad fully cleans the room, and bring your own food and water bowls as well as litter box so that she doesn't share anything with his cat. Keep your kitten in the room, and allow her to have no contact with the other cat. I do recommend getting her vaccinated, so have her seen by the vet on Monday to start the process. Best of luck!

How lovely of you to take in Haliegh! Because she isn't vaccinated, keep her indoors at all times and keep her isolated from any other cats in your home. Be sure to practice good hygiene after petting her, and washing your hands thoroughly after cleaning her litter box. She may not be used to small children, so only let your children interact with her when you are observing them. Be sure to have them wash their hands as well right after petting them. Blu should be getting a high quality cat food during her pregnancy, which will provide her with all the vitamins she and her kittens need to be healthy. It's typically not recommend to give a cat a vitamin supplement during pregnancy. That's because an overdose of vitamins can cause ill effects in Blu and her kittens. Too much vitamin A, for example, lead to the develop of cleft palates in the kittens. You can speak to your vet to see if they think it's safe to give her a vitamin supplement, and they can recommend one. Leave food out for her all the time, and you can supplement her diet with canned cat food. Make sure she always has access to plenty of fresh water. Get her up to date on her deworming treatments, and make sure she is flea treated. It's safe to use Revolution on pregnant cats. I would have her brother neutered to prevent him from mating with her again.
