My cat is rubbing her ear and meowing. Is she in heat or has a bug?

I agree with you, it sounds like she’s in heat! I don’t see her age listed, but I see she is not spayed and she’s 4 pounds so I’m assuming she’s a kitten. If she goes outside and is around intact males, she may go into heat a bit earlier than expected, which is usually 6 months. With aar infections cats tend to scratch their ears and shake their head, rather than roll around as you’re describing. If she’s eating normally, I doubt it’s her mouth, but an exam would have to be performed to have a better idea. Allergies would be possible but often don’t start causing an issue until adulthood, and again would be expected to cause itchiness and scratching, redness on the skin, sneezing, etc. If her abnormal behavior continues, take her in. She may be in heat or coming in to heat. Consider havi ng g her examined by your veterinarian. He or she can take a look deep into the ear to diagnose infection (bacterial, fungal or parasites). Her symptoms are very general in nature with multiple potential causes, so a physical exam may be necessary to reach a diagnosis.

Hi, I hope Bonnie and Scarlet are doing well. heat cycles can cause some abnormal behavior in cats, so this may be it. As long as they are eating and drinking and using the litter box well, I don't see a medical emergency. Bedbugs can move to animals but usually don't cause a problem. I would examine them both for signs of bugs or red spots and treat with a medication called revolution you can get from your vet. The weather may be another factor. If it is unusually warm out, they may be just laying around and not very active. I would monitor them both carefully for signs of not eating or not using the litter box properly and if you do see that, take them to a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, it's hard to know if this is pathological or if she is in heat? I recommend to look up information on heat cycles and watch videos. Also record the behavior on video. If this is not a heat cycle or if you are unsure if it is, I recommend to have her examined and have the doctor watch the video. The vet will palpate her spine and may check her urine for infection to look for a medical cause. If she’s coming into heat she will be acting differently. Lots of meowing, rolling around and acting wild. She may try to go out to get bred. If you don’t see that behavior I would check her all over to see if you can find a wound. I’m not overly concerned about this as long as it was only a few drops and it doesn’t continue. A female cat in heat will: arch her back, vocalize (meow) a lot, rub her face and body on everything in the house and become super affectionate. A car with worms will scoot her rear end and lick her rear end a lot. She may also start to urinate outside the litter box because of the stress from the worms, if not treated right away.

Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her.
