Why is my cat meowing, rubbing, and acting weird? Is she in heat?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Starting her heat cycle in a unspayed female cat is the most common reason for increased vocalization. Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her. You can also consider a Vet exam to be sure it isn't a medical condition. If she is otherwise fine, I hope that is improves with time and some of the above. Have a great day!

It is quite likely she is in heat, especially if she is also calling or shouting loudly. If you do not want kittens, be sure to keep her indoors and isolated from any unneutered male cats until you can have her spayed

Sounds like she is in heat. I suggest you have her spayed as soon as possible to prevent unwanted pregnancy. A cat will basically stay in heat until they are bred by a male; she will get pregnant. Hello! That behavior does sound like classic in heat, or estrus, behavior for cats. If Bean bean is acting otherwise normally but overly affectionate and vocal, it is likely only due to her heat cycle. I do caution that keeping cats intact without breeding them can cause a serious uterine infection called pyometra. If Bean bean becomes lethargic, reclusive, uninterested in food, or showing any general signs of illness, such as vomiting or diarrhea, I would recommend taking her into a vet to be seen. I agree with you, it sounds like she’s in heat! I don’t see her age listed, but I see she is not spayed and she’s 4 pounds so I’m assuming she’s a kitten. If she goes outside and is around intact males, she may go into heat a bit earlier than expected, which is usually 6 months. With aar infections cats tend to scratch their ears and shake their head, rather than roll around as you’re describing. If she’s eating normally, I doubt it’s her mouth, but an exam would have to be performed to have a better idea. Allergies would be possible but often don’t start causing an issue until adulthood, and again would be expected to cause itchiness and scratching, redness on the skin, sneezing, etc. If her abnormal behavior continues, take her in. Again I suspect she may be in heat. Good luck with her!

Hi there. If Lily is a young cat (around 8-9 months to a year old) and is not spayed, it's likely that she's in heat. These are all normal behaviors for a cat during her heat cycle. If this is the case, having her spayed should resolve these issues.

This is likely normal behavior if she is in heat. It is really recommended that she be spayed if she is not a breeding animal. Cats that are not spayed are at risk of developing mammary (breast) cancer and/or pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection). The more times they go through a heat cycle the chance rises. You know her best and if you are worried I suggest you take her to urgent care. Since I cannot examine her in person I can only guess at to what is going on. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
