My cat has worms. Can Revolution treat them or are OTC dewormers safe?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 8 lbs

I saw this tiny worm crawling out of my cat's butt. I was wondering what type of worm this is and if Revolution will treat this type of worm. I just brought Revolution to treat my cats for flea prevention. I'm hoping it will take care of these worms too. If not, are over the counter dewormers safe? Money is tight right now so if I could safely treat her at home, I'd rather do that than take her to the vet right now.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like a roundworm. You should apply Revolution on Ninny as this product is effective against roundworms.
However, if the worms come back, you should go for de-wormer in tablets, for example Drontal.

Great question! I highly recommend Drontal. It kills tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms, and it's an excellent deworming treatment. You can get it by prescription from your vet, and it's safe to use with Revolution :-)
