Why are live fleas still on my cat after Revolution treatment?

Revolution does not repel fleas. The fleas still have to get on Sage in order for the medicine to work. The fleas could have been new and not had time to fully die from the revolution yet. 80% of a flea problem is environmental. It is best to drop him off at the vet for the day while you treat your house and yard to full get rid of the problem.

Hi ! Can you still spot presence of fleas ? You should look for flea dirt more than adult fleas, tiny black dots that dissolve when put in contact with water on a white tissue . You can use a flea comb for this purpose and then wipe it on the wet tissue to see if there is any evidence of flea dirt. If you have established that there still are fleas, then it could be that when you applied the product it did not actually reach the skin surface. I would recommend to speak to your veterinarian with regards to an additional product to kill flea eggs and arrange an appointment perhaps with a technician to show you how to best administer this treatment, good luck and I hope everything goes well !

Until you wash her the flea-dirt will remain, as it is the poop from the fleas and won't go away without her grooming it off, or you washing it off. Giving her a bath with warm water and a tiny bit of soap (avoid any flea shampoos as you have already used good products) is a good idea. However I would wait for about a week to perform this bath as you don't want to wash the Revolution off. After you bath her, you can use the flea dirt to monitor if more adult fleas are present. If you don't bath her, which is an option, eventually she will groom it away, and this is ok. Best of luck with Cleo!

Keep in mind that fleas live in the environment, not on the cat, so if you haven't disinfected your home, it will be a continuing source of fleas. Great question! According to the package insert for Advantage 2, you can safely reapply once every two weeks, so it would be fine to give them the Revolution now. You can also give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes and is safe to give with the Revolution. Don't forget you will need to disinfect the environment as well. Fleas are the worst but the good news is that you can effectively get rid of them if you use a good product and are diligent in the treatment. The key to getting rid of fleas is to make sure EVERY dog and cat in the house is treated with a good flea prevention AND that this treatment lasts an entire 6 months. Your vet can give you access to the best flea products on the market. top products for cats are Revolution and Cheristan. I recommend to ask your veterinarian what they used and to continue it for a solid 6 months. Also know you will likely continue to see fleas for at least 6 weeks (assuming your product is working correctly) because of the newly emerging adult fleas. Lastly, know there is great variation in the effectiveness of topical flea products. As far as they go, for over the counter options, name brand Frontline and Advantage are your best options (but what you get from the vet is usually newer and better). I would recommend either Revolution or Comfortis for flea prevention. If he has a really heavy flea load then you can first give a Capstar, which will get rid of the fleas within 1 hr and then follow up with a flea preventative for long term control.
